Telling a psychiatrist about psychedelics is bad. I remember I had an Indian one who said," I would rather stick knife in my heart then do LSD. At least then I have a chance for a doctor to help me." Then he went on about how he had a patient who thought the air was made of water and I was like,"Isn't it?" Regardless he wouldn't give me benzo's or anything without a drug test. My knew one cost less and gives me valium and adhd meds and I def need them. He is also cheaper and white... big language and views barrier with Indian docs.

:thumbup::thumbup: Cannot give you enough thumbs up for that. Not nearly enough people distrusting doctors or thinking for themselves. I do not come off as some big, 'do not fuck with' professional, unfortunately.. so I say roughly the same to doctors and they decide I'm just being resistant and difficult. Not doing everything for myself that I could be, therefore not all that deserving of real medical treatment. I can state all my logical reasons for avoiding them and they'll still think I'm denying the real problem, especially if I insist depression is the least of my problems in the first place. I couldn't possibly know myself or be able to approach a problem from a different angle. Patients never know best.

Every doctor I've seen seems to be incredibly eager to push anti-depressants as some fix-all solution, harmless candy to pass out to everyone.. while keeping the stuff like anti-anxiety meds, sleeping pills, and painkillers under strict lock and key. Anything that's take as needed = future addiction, apparently.

That said, I've been looking at non-SSRI antidepressants, and I'm toying with the idea of seeing if I can get Wellbutrin (a norepinephrine/dopamine reuptake inhibitor approved for "depression") from my doctor.  Any opinions?  I'm not looking for anything recreational.  I honestly just want to be able to do more work and not have my ability to trip destroyed, my dick made limp, and my stomach made to acquire 30 extra pounds.  I heard you even lose weight with Wellbutrin.  Nice!

I was told by a psychiatrist on my very first appointment that if I continued smoking marijuana I would likely end up a homeless schizophrenic, and that all the research supports this. Needless to say, there was no second appointment.

I could have pointed out the simple fact that correlation ≠ causation and that  marijuana users being statistically more likely to have mental health issues doesn't prove that marijuana use causes mental health issues, but I doubt he would have even entertained the thought of my arguments being valid, since he's got a piece of paper that says he's an expert and I'm just some young pothead.

The importance placed on appealing to ethos in our society is ridiculous.
