Juno Rockets Towards Her Lover Jupiter

#14894347 - 08/09/11 06:38 AM (15 years, 2 months ago)

back in the day the roman god Jupiter was up to some mischief
and Juno the beautiful goddess was able to peer through his veil to see what he was doing
3 days ago the atlas V rocket Juno was launched on its 2017 journey to Jupiter
the project cost 1.1 billion and will take 5 years to get there and 1 year to complete
Juno is traveling at 24,000 mph and has to go 1,700,000,000 miles it will arrive in 5 years
then it will do 33 orbits over a 1 year period and snap insane pix revealing Jupiter's inner most mysteries
Jupiter emits ridiculous amounts of radiation which will degrade the computer components of Juno
an hour after Juno launched it transformed extending 3 massive solar arrays which will propel it on its 1.7billion mile journey

meh I actually know quite a few people who work there, my friends dad is a chemist and discovered methane on Europa. Its hard but for the people who have been working there for a while it wasnt too hard to get in, things are definitely slowing down though.. I have a chance for an internship there through my school (JPL and my college have agreements on annual interships in the physics and engineering departmets)

sorry my keyboard is all fucked up

Go for it

I imagine it's one of those few places where really exciting things involving the natural sciences are still being done. Back in the good old days (read: the 1950s-1970s), every major company had its research dept. where eccentric people were working on bizarre stuff, but sadly, shareholders don't like eccentric people anymore.
