I didn't have really bad attacks until i used marijuana. It makes my anxiety x100.

only time I've ever had an anxiety attack is when I was smoking weed, I
learned to recognize the onset, the first signs and then I learned to
suppress it, now I dont get them at all

I had horrific anxiety problems for a year or two, mostly due to drug abuse. I had been taking acid once a week for about a year, and then I started fucking around with ecstasy. Not to mention the drinking. Or the DMT. I ended up with the hangover from hell. I'd had no idea what a "panic attack" was before that happened, but now I know all too well.

I had mini-attacks more days than not for about a year after that. It was fucking terrible.

But I did get through it, and I didn't have to use any pharmaceuticals or see a therapist.

It takes self-respect. You have to eat well, get enough sleep, and exercise. I started hiking, and that made a world of difference.

lol! I hear ya on that one dog. I have been in that situation many times. But I also have come out on top by facing my fears. I actually picked up a register girl once. It was nice. I find that I worry about eye contact when I think I want to look at her but I may be a creep for staring like a ...well, creep. So instead I will just say hi and smile. And ask her how her day is.

I agree with that completely. It does remind you that you are living! Pain is a good reminder for sure.

I always have social anxiety but it goes away for the most part during the warmer months when I am getting lots of sun and its pleasant outside. Right now I feel great! I usually get most of my dates or hookups in the warmer months.

I went through severe anxiety for three years. For the first six months I didn't even know what it was, just that i felt on "edge" about something. My anxiety became worse and worse, to the point where i later developed paranoid delusions(which I would rather not discuss). I woke up every morning in a pool of sweat and spent hours calming myself down, not to mention the depression. When the psychosis ended I was left with a terrible social and generalized anxiety disorder. I never gave up, the whole time all this was going on I was focusing on how to overcome it. Never stop picturing that bright sunny day full of peace.

Research, read peoples stories, read scientific articles, read all day. I don't know how severe yours is, but this is what I had to do. I tried to understand it from a neurological point of view, I read every speculative article on it and about the brain. Knowing why anxiety is happening can help you think about how to solve it. More effective than this is, however, is introspection. No one can really help you but yourself. Never take drugs, including and maybe especially caffeine. Drink alcohol moderately if you must. Recognize that if your condition is severe, it may take years to overcome, be easy on yourself when you fail in social situations. Exercise, its incredibly important along with diet, you will notice immediate improvement.

Learn to prune your thoughts. When you are near the light, you will have trained yourself to recognize which thought paths facilitate anxiety. You will know what to think about and what not to, its like an anxious thought becomes a guilty pleasure. The road to this thought recognition can only be discovered by yourself.

For myself, healing anxiety meant healing myself to the core. I was out of sync because of a lot of internal problems, the anxiety was the last thing to go after solving these problems. Take on an optimistic view of your reality, and the life benefits of having overcome something so debilitating.

If you think intensely about society or philosophy stop. A lot of my thinking lead to existential depression and a fear about the constant state of the world. I'm still unsure if that was a product of the anxiety, or if the anxiety was the product of it.

What really changes your brain is when you have a positive reaction in a situation where normally you would have a negative(anxious) one. This is critical. Action follows your thought, and is the most important part. TO overcome anxiety, you MUST have a positive experience in a situation which generally makes you very nervous, this is what literally changes your brain. Thats why it takes years to overcome, the positive experiences must compound, the more you heal the quicker you will heal as you will begin to become more positive.

In sum, I am saying what everyone is saying: sobriety, diet, exercise, learned optimism, only you can help yourself.

I used to have bad anxiety shortly after dropping out of college the first time around.

I had panic attacks because I didn't like where my life was going, but I kept procrastinating EVERYTHING, and kept freaking out about how much of a procrastinator I was, but was unable to do anything about it. Once I got my shit together for myself and had much higher self esteem, the anxiety kind went away. All you have to do is just fucking DO IT.

Weed is so much better now, although sometimes I do wig out still if I smoke way to much weed

Weed is strange that way. I've had experiences where it relieved my anxiety and other experiences where it blew the anxiety up like a balloon. IME it's best to lay off the weed if you're trying to get rid of anxiety.

Don't get me wrong, I smoke urday. But it's a very volatile thing to do if you're having anxiety issues.

Ive had anxiety issues, but am about to finally crave and probably go talk to a counselor in september.  if the counselor consults w/ a psychiatrist and determines that a medication regiment would be ideal, i'm all for it at this point.

My mother is a basketcase (anxiety wise, not like she's stupid or crazy) and has completely calmed from whatever her doc has her on (i forget the name, but it wasn't anything strong.  symbalta or something?)

Weed has given me some full blown anxiety attacks before... my anxiety stems from thoughts/feelings of insanity. I've had several occasions from smoking weed where my mind went spiraling out of control into overdrive paranoid thoughts complete with strange auditory hallucinations and things of that sort.

I've learned to recognize the signs of an anxiety attack and since i've been though so many of them it's something I can talk myself though.
