fruiting Shiitake

My local barbecue & smoker supply store sells alder chips so I did not have to try growing on aspen after all.  :laugh:  I supplemented the alder with a bit of wheat bran as suggested in TMC.





After these guys are fully colonized, is it advisable to remove from the jars and fruit them as cakes? Or would it be better to use them to spawn a bag of the same substrate and fruit off of a large block? At this point I am more concerned with success than quantity of fruit.

I had to return my copy GGMM to the library and I'll be damned if I can find the notes that I took, so any advice & suggestions will be appreciated.

Is this hobby great or what?  :grin:

Looking very good :-) i would say there best spawned to
bags rather than fruited on the cakes.But i'm no expert.
