Lions Mane and Shiitake plates
    #3193015 - 09/28/04 07:20 PM (19 years, 4 months ago)

I just got a couple of plates today, Lions mane and Shiitake, what are my options???

I live in the PNW, and its fall.

Could I do something like start a bunch of grain and spawn that to wood(maybe straw?)

And CAN I grow either one of these outside??? I have agar plates and its september 28th, what are my options??? (inside? outside?? substrates???)

Thanks.

You could use the plates for making spawn on WBS or rye and use that again to inoculate sawdust substrate. For recipes for sawdust substrate look up Stamets GGMM or Waynes "Growing mushrooms the easy way" or the shroomery .
I would keep the mycelium at about 25 degrees Celsius for colonizing.
The lions mane are probably fruiting much faster then the shiitake and at this time of year you will have to fruit them indoors.
The shiitake usually take much more time for colonizing the substrate and it depending on the strain (cold or warm weather strain) the fruit at different temperatures.
But I think that at this time of year you will have to grow them indoors ...
