Crazy conversation last night about War in Afghanistan, et al. * 1
    #14563757 -

I got into a long conversation last night with a guy who worked in journalism in Afghanistan, and has also done work in warn-torn African nations and in Pakistan.  He told me absolutely crazy things about what he saw in Afghanistan.

For one thing, he said he saw firsthand, dozens of times, private security forces clear towns by going from building to building, using technology that can find the electric signals emitted by beating hearts, to locate all the people inside the building without entering, and snipe them all.  And he said almost without fail these buildings turned out to be full of women and children.  He said he was amazed that the U.S. govt. gave him and other journalists access to so many instances of wholesale murder of innocents, and he and his colleagues assumed this was because it wasn't even close to the worst of what was going on.  He also said that the frequent footage people with him sent in of extremely intense firefights and dead civilians never once made it to major news media coverage.

He told me a lot more about his experiences that I don't want to go into, and I confirmed via the Interwebz that he had really been to the places he said.  He was really young but had seen tons of unspeakably awful things, in Afghanistan and in Africa.  Talking to him made me want to do something worthwhile with my life instead of just wasting it idly moving from one pursuit to the next.

/cool story bro

no. but you cant tell me a reporter that's witnessing a fuckload of deaths of
unarmed civilians based on a radar vital statistics monitor isnt going find
some way of getting the story published especially when sites like wikileaks
existed... not to mention that this device he's described is still in
development and would require a truck which would mean constant communication
between the operator and the troops, after the first shots are fire the rest
of the village would be armed and firing back or would be escaping the
slaughter... logistically, this would be a nightmare for ground forces

the developer of this device works with someone I know, the guys name is
Eugene Greckner or something and he's currently based in powder springs, he
was with Georgia Tech Research when he came up with it and it's capable of
reading 5 meters and solid walls like found in many homes and buildings in
Afghanistan would severely limit it's abilities

it's also possible that I still have clearance and friends in the military

why didnt this reporter get his story out? there's thousands of sources
inside and outside the US that would have payed well for a story like that

If it was true, some mainstream outlet would pick up on it.  Or he's afraid to go public but has no problem telling a stranger?

this video shows that over a 5 year span 600 civilians were killed, it's
called collateral damage, it happens but lets ask an important question, why
does Iraq body Count and other sources show between 100,000 and 1,000,000
civilian casualties

Where did I say that?

The documentary I posted is a good video to watch if you want to know more about iraqi civilian casualties caused by the war on terror.

Watch it if you want.

that's my point, the story doesnt add up, I've never known of a war
correspondent to not keep copies, back in the day it was the negatives, these
days it's digital which means many copies can be made from the same data and
stored in hundreds of places simultaneously

if I'd seen what this guy had you better believe I'd have it on the front
page of every american hating news source in a matter of hours

NDA's and fear, according to him.

He told me a lot of crazy things.  I'm not saying 100% that most of it is true.  Maybe he's a pathological liar, but a lot of it sounded credible to me, and as I said, he definitely went to the places he's said.

Although I don't doubt stuff like this occurs frequently, it's hard for me to believe our military would do so on stage for the media.  If he wanted to get the info out, he could.  Like Pris said, there is too much opposition for this war in particular for the evidence to just wash away.

I didn't read this book but I saw the author on the Daily Show.

Apparently, there are more crazy people out there than you think: http://www.amazon.com/Psychopath-Test-Journey-Through-Industry/dp/1594488010
