Need ID help... Big orange mushrooms!
    #1446532 -

I live in Vancouver where the highs have been around 13 degrees celcius lately, anyways on the golf course where I live I found some mushrooms that look very much like THESE the only difference I can see is that the gills are BLACK or at least look like it because of the way the cap is, is there any look-alikes or did I find a semilanceata? i could probably do a spore print but once again the shape of the cap makes it hard.

I know this post is a bit old, but I just got home from spring break and was reading over what I missed.

There are a few mushrooms that could be mistaken for Ps. semilanceata. The most dangerous are Inocybes and Conocybes. Both genera have deadly toxic mushrooms in them, and could be mistaken for Ps. semilanceata by a novice.

Based on the conditions you found your mushrooms in, I'd guess they are Conocybes and not Psilocybes. Liberty caps tend to grow in manured soil, and golf courses are rarely(if ever) fertilized with manure. Did the mushrooms have a white stem that shimered if held at different angles in the light, kind of shiney? Did they have a "bulb" at the end of the stem? What color was the spore print?

Liberty caps are very common on golf coourses along the Oregon Coast. In England they grow on lawns and along roads in tall rank grasses and in parkls. In Seattle, there are always a few lawns every year with a small crop of p. semilanceata. however this is not the right time of the year, I fdid find 11 or so on a south center lawn in May of 1979. But never that earlyt before. ANd no shrooms ever cam up on that lawn later.

There was a lawn at South Center for two years which produced a crop of P. strictipes, but they two never returned.
