    #25038879 - 03/04/18 06:15 PM (5 years, 11 months ago)

Habitat:
In grass, under oak tree, San Diego County, CA.

Gills:
seem to be just a sort of a mass...brown, same color as inside body

Stem:
Whole mushroom 5-9cm long, brown inside cottony white on outside, solid, spongy. Bright red on bottom of stem now red area fading to dark brown

Cap:
2-5cm diameter, brown on inside and spongy feeling, cottony white on outside.

Spore print color:
So far no spore print, not sure it is possible to obtain, I have attached images of the spore mass with a few spores under microscope below.

Bruising:
None noticable.

Other information:
It smells pretty bad and getting worse.
I have "Mushrooms Demystified" and attempted to ID this mushroom with no avail. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!

It's a species of Bolete that is being parasitised by a Hypomyces sp.

Crazy, thats my first time finding a bolete, too bad it was covered in hypomyces. Glad to know what that is though for the future. Thanks for the ID . This forum is awesome
