New to hunting in iowa

Hello every one iv been reading posts on the site for a wile now and just made an account. im new to hunting and i live in Iowa. I was just wondering if there is anyone in Iowa that has had any luck. any advice for my journey would also be aw some.

I would just like some advise on places to look and when to look. I saw that Gymnopilus sp. Panaeolus cinctulus could be found around here.

Well, I reckon there are cattle and horses in Iowa. The most likely -  or should I say "only" - candidate to be found in Iowa should be Panaeolus cinctulus, so look in cattle or horse pastures and near stables and around and on piles of dung after a period of rain from Spring through Fall, but Iowa is possibly the worst place to live if you are interested in hunting mushrooms, especially active mushrooms. Well, maybe Death Valley in mid summer is a bit worse, but Iowa comes in a close second. Most active mushrooms in Iowa are found growing in people's closets.

I have found gyms here in nw iowa. Mushrooms are pretty scarce around here though. Morels are pretty common, if youre into edibles. what part Iowa you from OP?

Sorry pal, sometimes the truth hurts. I was in the exact same situation a few years ago.

By all means, try your luck but dont ingest any of the mushrooms you find.  Dont wanna see you in the papers

im from round NW IOWA.. i dunno anything about that area. :shrug: I just hit up public hunting land and state parks.

Managed only to find a handful before it started to rain:sad:. But I only had to look for about 15 minutes to find these Morels(found in public hunting land along Missouri River.) NW IOWA

Actually, what most people were basically saying was that there is a high chance of frustration if you are hunting actives in Iowa, which is true. But even if there are almost no actives in the wild, it's really easy to cultivate Psilocybe cubensis at home. So my advice would be to mostly hunt for edibles (or all mushrooms at that, they are all interesting) and be happy if you occasionally find a Panaeolus cinctulus and learn how to cultivate mushrooms at home at the same time. The other option would be to move away from corn cob central. :shrug:

ya im planing on doing that once i get my own place. do you know of any good links for growing out doors?
