Poll: Mushroom Hunting > Subforum > Gallery By US State
    #3536641 - 12/23/04 04:39 PM (19 years, 3 months ago)

Would you vote "yes" or "no" to adding a subforum to this forum that has a gallery that's state-specific so we can not only see what people are hunting but we can specifically look at the dates they found their specimens and in what state?
You may choose only one

Well this would be specifically for hunting though, not so much as that in the Growlog and Picture Forum.
It would be good for the following i think:
1. You're new to fungi and you want to hunt in your area. You don't know what grows in your state. You don't even know what time of the year it would grow. You need confidence building photos of hunts that other people have posted. You can't find their posts.
2. You go the Shroomery and click on this new forum, choose your state, choose the month and or year of the posts for that state, and wa-lah.
3. It just seems to be more structured this way to me.

its more structured but i just decided i dont like it. Pnw hunters have alot to offer the rest of us. Identifying for us is that main thing. If they dont read the cali forum then the id's will come slower. There could be a hunting question forum and a pics forum.

It seems like a good idea to me, although I have a feeling some forums would be very bare. Maybe that is a good thing though, it'll make it easier to find information you are looking for.

I would like to add that I don't think it should be strictly for the US states. There is an international shroomery community too. Obviously sections for each region in each country is unreasonable because some regions are less represented than others, it would still be nice to have more sub forums that just the US states though.

There are links here in the shroomery to two of my major distribution papers. one is a state by state list of know active species and includes all of the Canadian Provinces.

The other is a world wide distribution of the known Neurotropic fungi of which there are now more than two and 20 known pscyhoactive species of which more than 120 belong tot he genus psilocybe and others belonging to various generas in the Agaricales.

have a shroomy day,
mj

Would you consider assembling a section on this site for this purpose if the respected administrators approve?

What about the ones that belong to other groups like CORDYCEPS? How will that feel? That's the spiritual life of an insect trapped in a visual concept.

I think the site is already fine with the information it already has in the regards to a statee by state listing of the known species recorded in the literature.

However, IOf soomeone want to do so let them.

I voted yes but I could go either way on this one. It would be nice if we could sort by state somehow. Maybe have users register their location then posts can be sorted by the home state of the thread starter. That would require a fair amount of modification to the board code and everyone would have to add a location to their profile. Ah well, it's no big deal.

We've(mods and admins) already had talk about what subforums we're going to do. From what I remember we're going to divide it up like this:

South East US
North East US
South West US
North West US(and canada)
Australia/NZ
Europe

and a seperate Amanita muscaria subforum.

i voted no, i think it would be unnessary and add confusion for most people who want to learn about this stuff.

if it is done, i think it should be done by continants,
on a global scale,
following gartz/guzman/allens paper, neurotropical distribution of psychoactive fungus paper.

not northwest, southeast, ect
