Does Construction Tyvek have any place in Mycology?

I went out and spent $50 on a roll of Construction Tyvek at a builder's store. Now, I have been reading posts for a couple hours about using Tyvek for GE, and I am creating this thread to see if there is a place in Mycology for Construction Grade Tyvek, most people are saying it's too thick, and I tried to blow through a single layer and no air passed. My application is for LC/Grain Jar GE. Should I go with polyfill/Whatmans/Filter Discs/Postal Tyvek or can I use Construction/Building Tyvek at all? Or should I just return the roll and try something else? Thanks in advance.

Before Doc-T tells you that polyfil is the best and todlow tells you that nothing else will do except for synthetic filter disk I'll tell you from my limited, yet so far successful experience, construction grade Tyvek works fine. It's all that I use and I've never had a contam in many, many jars. I believe it's more about your sterile technique than anything else.

Do you cut like a 1/2" hole and cover it with RTV and a Tyvek square, or do you do the whole lid cover tek?

I use todlow's lid tek but use Tyvek instead of synthetic filter disk. I like clear RTV,not red. 1/4" FAE hole and I use 1/4" hole filled with RTV both sides for inoculation port.

I would return your expensive roll of construction tyvek, go to the post office and grab a bunch of their tyvek envelopes, they are free! I think they are like the express mail envelopes, you should be able to find them at any post office!

If you're breaking one federal law, why not make it 2?

If I was adamant about using tyvek over synthetic filter disks, I would of spent that same 50$ dollars at ebay on medical grade tyvek wrist sleeves.
The best tyvek for use in mycology is medical grade tyvek, usually sold in wrist sleeve form. Medical grade tyvek is the desired pore size (.02 um's). It can also be repeatedly PC'ed without it's pore size closing.

Wrong. But, for our purposes, any Tyvek will work.

Not entirely true. The hobby/kite-building and cover-all tyvek is far better than the USPS envelope stuff, and the construction grade too. The former is more cloth-like and has a different weave than the post office stuff. Plus you're not stealing.

I already started using the roll, I've prepped a bunch of lids. We'll see how it works, I'm pretty sterile, haven't been able to have kids for over a decade. jk, I work sterile, I have a good glove box that has kept me going for awhile. One of these days, I'm going to build a flow hood, but I like my GB, since I can tear it down in seconds and it just looks like a bin full of clothes. Hard to do that with a flow hood. So, to stay on topic, I'll give the Tyvek a try and let you know if there are any issues. The lids were super easy to prep, going to innoc now, MS. Tomorrow, I'll make some LC from clone material. I love that syringe TEK I found somewhere on this board, the guy just sticks a needle through the stem of a good shroom, and clones with that. Thanks for the responses. I just hope I get enough GE for the grain jars once the LC is ready.

Notice I said they are free. It's not against federal law to go get envelopes from a post office that are free. They give them to you. The lady at the post office told me to take a whole bunch. She didn't give a fuck.

Right, but i'm pretty sure it's against the law to use them for anything other than their intended purpose, especially if it involves something illegal (like growing mushrooms). I think it may even have an agreement you have to "sign" on their website when you order them. But hey, you're technically already committing a federal crime by growing anyways. No sense in pointing fingers.
