I have my first really big n00b question. I'd PM one of the more experienced members but I'd like some group input on this. What is "tyvek" and where does everyone get it?

nifty, can I use the black tyvek construction paper they use to cover houses? Because I have a massive role of that stuff. Also, why would someone use polyfill? Isn't a small hole covered with a bandaid alot easier?

ppl do use the tyvek they use for construction, but it would probly be easier to work w/ the tyvek envelopes from the post office. ppl use polyfill IMO becase its cheap/easy/effective but everyone has there own preffrences. i did a couple rounds w/ tyvek and whent back to polyfill.. its just so much easier IMO..
hope this helped out some..

USPS = free free = good
The tyvek you see on houses and the tyvek you see in the envelopes are pretty much the same thing. What you want to avoid is anything that contains recycled material in it. The envelopes you want are the USPS priorty mail envelopes which feel just like paper.
I nabbed a stack of about 300 a year ago and im not even a 1/3 of the way through it yet. If you get any suspicious looks, or get asked a question, tell the people you run an ebay business at home. They'll leave you alone after that.

That being the downside to living in Canada. Does polyfill provide the same level of FAE as tyvek, and it doesn't get wet and soggy?

polyfill isnt as efficient a filter as tyvek is. If need be you can always just go buy a roll.

Just go into the post office and grab some priority mail envelopes--they're free and no one will hassle you. You don't need many as they're fairly large.

Do a google search--tyvek is used in all sorts of applications. It's used in siding on houses, mail, um.... You might just google it for your specific country. It may very well be in your domestic post office, too.

Is that how you do your grain jars GnuBobo? Looks pretty strait forward and easy. That site only posts to the USA (lucky buggers ) Why would they give them away for free? seems pretty generous. Searching the internet they looks pretty damm expencive so i guess i'll take a look at my local post office. Hopefully i can get small quantities there.

Yeah. I like plastic lids. The RTV high-temp silicone is pretty damn sturdy as is the tyvek.
You've got to have a local source for tyvek--it's a Dupont product that should be easy as sin to find. Hmmm....
If nothing else, someone in the States can send you some.

Well it is the United States Postal Service afterall... Americans get nifty envelopes, you Canadians get free healthcare. Personally, I prefer the envelopes .
