Tyvek Envelopes/ Filter disks?
    #611243 - 04/17/02 07:52 PM (21 years, 11 months ago)

I have been interested in trying some filter disks, but i have been low on cash. I noticed a few people talking about Tyvek. Is this the same stuff they use for tyvek envelopes? I have some Tyvek enveploes already and i was wondering if they would work if you cut them into circles for the jars. I am using 1/2 pints. They say they are rip proof but im not sure if they can allow for oxygen exchange.

Better be careful! There the newly formed "postal envelope
misusing task force" that are looking for a few naughty fish.

I started 4 jars of B+ with Tyvek filters that i made out of envelopes on 4/19. There is no growth in any of the jars as of 4/22. I have been using plastic jar lids on my other jars and they have all shown growth within 4 days. I innocutlated by putting 4 holes (just like the PFTEK) in the tyvek filters and used 1cc per jar. (1/4cc per hole) Everyone talk about tyvek being very quick, but it seems slower to me? Am I just getting impatient? Or have i done something wrong?

If you are using tyvex and bands only, I'd say your substrate
has dried out. Just my opinion..

if you are not innoculating cakes there is no need for 4 injection sites. simply add 1cc to the jar through one insertion.
after youinjected into these 4 sites what did you use to cover the holes made by the needle?
and i use use filters with lid bands only. i plan on trying my own experiment (after my equador vs. south america myco bag experiment) with tyvek envelopes.
but the ones i have now i recievedfrom micron magick and she sells them 100 for 15 bucks. and that was the most productive 15 bucks i've spent on things to improve my shrooms. you can reuse them, too! just clean them.

also check the thread by anno. he did a tyvek experiment and posted results it was a short while back.
peace!
