Low wattage fluoro for Loph seedlings? * 1
    #14354937 -

I was hoping to use low wattage fluoro about 6" from seedling tray for 14-16hr daily.

Will that be enough  - is there any concern for wattage?  Is there a relation between wattage/time, one goes up the other goes down?

I've got Pereskiopsis cuttings coming in the mail.  Upon planting how long does it take to root, and be useable as a stock?  I've got Loph seeds, and would like to plant them soon if the Peres will be useable in 2weeks.  Should it?

Thanks

funny you should ask.

my five year olds were under a 4ft shop light for almost 2 years.

its great for the early start and you can put them under almost immediately. i currently have a shop light ready to go i just need somewhere to put it.

fluros is perfectly fine as long as you keep them close. and a little fan close by woulnd't hurt either.

by a week you should have roots. and its a perfect stock to speed them up.

i myself have had shitty luck with peres as i can't seem to find a good way to keep the scion down without killing it.

i lost 4 aztekium ritteri due to the fact they are so freakin small. i just have 2 seedlings left but i'll wait maybe 2 years for another attempt.

:goodluck: with your endevors my man.

I'm a bit nervous to graft, too.  I haven't seen a good picture of how the 'cut-in-half' Loph seedling is to fit on the Peres...

I don't like the idea of rubberbands...I know there are somewhat mixed results using superglue for grafting.  Are there any other recommended methods?  Or does anyone have a good guide with detailed pictures?

Too bad for your A. ritteri...dealing with millimeters/years :P
Thanks for the Peres/light info, I'm excited to start

Good luck to you too

I have a problem with my lighting system as well. I have a large 160 watt dual-spectrum light that I plan to use. I just don't know how far I should keep it from lophophora seedlings, rooted plants and pereskiopsis grafts. I know that for the lights to be useful, they need to be close to the plant, but by how far? I have burnt out young plants before keeping the light too close.

Different heights for all of those. You only need a fluorescent rig for all of them. What type of light is it?

For a fluorescent:
Hang at 10-12 inches.
Leave seedlings 10-12 inches away.
Raise up rooted mature plants to be within 3-4 inches of the bulbs.
Raise pereskiopsis at first depending on size keeping the tips 3-4 inches away from the bulbs.

For a MH/HPS:
I'd start seedlings 3-4 feet away minimum with additional "shade".
