Would this work for seedlings?
    #1434758 - 04/07/03 12:26 AM (13 years, 7 months ago)

I have a few germinated pot seeds in soil cups and I want to start a few indoors then move them outside. My question is; would two 15w compact floros work to start the seedlings if placed close to the cups, or is this a waste of time? Peace.

yea... i always used fluoros to start out my seedlings.

heres a good way to set up the fluoros:

_______________
|  |        |  |
|  |        |  |
|  |  |    |  |
|  | _\|/_  |  |
|  |  _|_    |  |
|__|__\_/____|__|

box: line the inside of the box with aluminum foil.
the box should be about 3 times the height of your plant's container.

lights: set up four fluoros in the four corners of the box. the lights should reflect everywhere giving your little seedling a nice little grow box.

Yepthose should be fine for about 3 weeks to 1 month, a rule of thumb is to keep the tips of the plants within 5" of the lights so some kind of sytem that enables you to raise and lower the light is a good idear, as is reflective surfaces inside the grow chamber such as Tin foil, mirrors or just a flat mat white will all help out as flouros give off so little light that reflective surfaces help quite a bit. Also dont forget you do get growth spurts, one is about a week after the seed germinate ,you have a sudden spurt as the root system fills out so watching on a daily basis is quite key,as you dont wont the tips to touch the light as this will damage them or slow them down.
Good luck hope all goes well ;-)

yea if you use foil use the dull side not the shiny one. and dont use mirrors they absorb light and aren't good. mylar is the best choice. peace

I'm not entirely sure but i think it depends on the type of mirror and what/how it's made.

if you really want to get into it.....

buy two computer case fans... and a computer power supply

put foil on the underside of the box's lid... and close the lid.
then cut out squares in two opposite sides of the box and mount one fan to pull air in.. and the other to pull air out.

set the fans about a foot down from the top of the box.
