LSD interaction with medications?
    #14212606 -

I am currently taking:
Geodon
Paxil
Wellbutrin
Cogentin

Will any of these drugs interact with LSD in any dangerous or harmful ways?
I've looked up each of them and am 80% sure that I shouldn't worry, but that the effects of the acid might be diminished by paxil because it's an SSRI. I can't find anything about wellbutrin's interaction with LSD on this site, but erowid has this fucking awesome page ( http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/lsd/lsd_health3.shtml ) which says that it had no adverse side effects.

I also found a page on this site ( http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/2808338#2808338 ) in which Wiccan Seeker says that it could cause me to have a bad trip. I think that's the extent of the danger I would be putting myself in, and I'm willing to take that chance to experience this chemical.

do not take LSD with Geodon, you will have a very bad experience.  they are opposites and shouldn't be mixed

this link explains what it's like to mix thorazine and LSD.  geodon would probably be a smiliar experience, might be worse or better, but it wouldn't be blissful thats for sure.

http://www.erowid.org/psychoactives/faqs/psychedelic_crisis_faq.shtml#antidotes

"Treating a psychedelic crisis with Thorazine is to be avoided and is considered a form of extreme mental torture and has been known to result in weeks or months of psychological trauma for the person treated with this "mental straightjacket" while in the middle of a psychedelic crisis."

I can't find a single report that says that Geodon and LSD used together have negative effects beyond having a bad trip. Thorazine works in a completely different way than Geodon, so I don't think that your concerns are valid.

This thread has Wiccan Seekers take on whether or not a person on Geodon should take psychedelics:  http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/2808338#2808338

I've also smoked pot while on Geodon. For me, weed is extremely psychedelic, more so that mushrooms even. I've smoked a handful of times since I started taking Geodon with mixed results. At the worst I experience paranoia (which I am well equipped to control), and at the best I feel happy, stoned, and relaxed.

Reporting back. I took one hit of LSD and had a wonderful time. It did not interact unfavorably with any of my medications, and I had a great trip

LSD is an ergotamine derivative, then is expected to be an cytochrome P450 inhibitor. you would research if is contraindicated or not, depend on the metabolic way of each medication.

here's a example

I don't understand why that would matter. None of my medications stopped me from tripping and I didn't experience any negative side effects. Where's the problem?

check if any of your medications is metabolized via cytochrome P450. the problem isn't a stop in the trip  the problem is if any or multiple medications are metabolized via cytochrome P450 they could reach blood concentrations higher than desired. nobody could predict if that is enough for generate a adverse reaction, but the risk exists. be careful.

i do some google search:

Ziprasidone (Geodon) is hepatically metabolized by aldehyde oxidase; minor metabolism occurs via cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4).[10] Medications that induce (e.g. carbamazepine) or inhibit (e.g. ketoconazole) CYP3A4 have been shown to decrease and increase, respectively, blood levels of ziprasidone.

Paroxetine (Paxil)is metabolized by cytochrome P450 2D6.

Bupropion (Wellbutrin)is metabolized to hydroxybupropion by CYP2B6, an isoenzyme of the cytochrome P450 system. Alcohol causes an increase of CYP2B6 in the liver, and persons with a history of alcohol use metabolize bupropion faster.

Thanks for doing that research for me  I have no idea how you obtained that information.

I do not understand how to interpret your findings. Does this mean that taking acid is a serious risk? What do I have to worry about? What negative effects should I expect, and do they become more of an issue if I take more acid?

is difficult to answer; usually the appearance or not of drug interactions is unpredictable. I'm a MD, i know people who take contraindicated medications by tons without any significant interaction, and others who suffered serious adverse effects after a single dose. the problem you could expect is an increase in the effects of your prescribed drugs -somnolence, dizziness, etc- but is unlikely if you have some time taking these medications -due tolerance- and why LSD is a drug which you dont take in a daily basis.

hope this help!

Definitely does. I was planning to jump from my one hit first time to a three hit second time, but, now that I understand what could happen, I have decided to take two and up the dosage each consecutive time until I find the sweet spot.

I seriously doubt that LSD will do me any harm other than the possibility of a bad trip.

Also, I've been taking my meds for about a year now.

Why are you on all those medications?  I'm guessing you have some severe psychological problems to be on all that crap.  Maybe it's not the best idea to take psychedelics when you have such severe problems.

But Geodon is a 5-HT2A antagonist.  This means it directly blocks the main effect of psychedelics.

Paxil causes an increase in the levels of serotonin in the synapses.  This causes significant downregulation of the serotonin receptors.  Basically it causes a huge tolerance to psychedelics.

I'm surprised you were able to trip at all.  Either your hits are like 400µg, or you had a placebo trip.

We'll find out soon enough.

I've found several experience reports saying that paxil does not affect a person's ability to trip.

I haven't found any experience reports that say that geodon will keep you from tripping

Erowid has a document that says that welbutrin doesn't interact badly with LSD.

Here's what I posted about my experience on the PE board. Please read it and tell me if it sounds like I had a real trip and if my experience sounds like it's due to the placebo effect.

I'm still tripping as I write this. My dose took about two hours to set in, and, right as I was resigning myself to the fact that Paxil probably did diminish the drug's effect, a wave of beautiful energy washed through my body. The effects of the acid were so positive and exciting in ways that I could not have imagined before taking my first hit. I would hate to call what I am experiencing underwhelming, it is such a beautiful experience, but if I had to process this feeling through my now discarded schema, it is definitely the closest word to describing what I feel.

This is the least tripped out I've ever been while on a psychedelic. In some ways this is because of the warmly welcoming sensation that my one hit made me feel, but I definitely did not take a big enough dose.

The person who sold these to me was spot on in his advice. Next time I will take 3 tabs for a "good, strong" trip

hey healing
I take 40mg of geodon daily for i havent had a serious mind melter in a while i think not since i started taking it i was at one point taking 80mg and would eat some mdma with full effects. last week i dropped the geodon for 3 days with no problems other getting to sleep on the last 2 nights anyway i took a feeler dose of san pedro last week, just to gauge dose, using this method definatly achieved a textbook threshold that i had mostly expected. i plan next week on taking a full journey with the cacti. id like to know how the 3 hits worked out

Advice = don't do LSD

O hai, I ignored your advice and took it anyway, and it was fine, so basically fuck your advice.

I'd like some advice. I'm thinking of making a snarky post on a drugs forum, should I do it?

It was a wonderful time  As have been all of my acid trips since. I must advise you not to stop your medications like that. It could be very dangerous. I also can't recommend that you take any psychedelics. It has been working out well for me, but everybody reacts differently.

yeah your right it isn't advisable but i have been without geodon stopped by my doctor for 5 months last year without a supplemental medication i only was again regimented on it as it helped me sleep well, decreased anxiety and increase focus a bit. it's no longer being used as a strict bi-polar medication, rather, when i was using it for that purpose it had positive side effects so my doctor and i thought it better then taking the myriad of pharms out there that may solve these small problems but ultimately cause much more severe problems (addiction, liver damage ect.). this is why i am on the lowest possible, pharmaceutically, active dosage. Though i agree that abruptly stopping this med could likely cause a slue of problems. i guess its time to rethink my system, i have a other doctor then mine in mind that wouldn't judge and will just give me straight up info. its terrible that we have to scour the internet only to find half answers by those without direct experience. I dont think i should feel ashamed to tell my primary doctor that i want to experiment with psychedlics again and would like to know if that is ok and how to safely do so. i guess thats me preaching the ol' psychedelic research song, it's an old tune but always rings true
