Been a while since I posted an article so here is one that is somewhat interesting. I'm not too sure what to make of it as there are very few details. I can't immediately seem to find any additional information about this particular incident. However I have a feeling there is more to it than this child accidentally taking LSD.




LSD Dose Kills 7 Year Old Girl

The Weimar Mercury (TX) - March 19, 1970

Austin - Extensive laboratory tests have shown that Laura Massey, 7, of Austin, died from an overdose of the so-called mind-expanding drug LSD, a justice of the peace said.

Laura died Feb. 1 after spending a week in convulsions and finally a coma, investigators said. She became ill after a picnic at Lake Travis with other children and several adults.

Peace Justice Robert Kuhn said he would withhold a verdict in the girl's death pending an investigation by sheriff's officers.

Wow that is the work of the federal government for sure! No parent gives a girl LSD, and no 7 year old acquires it, come on people.

I call bullshit.  Its either government propaganda or Texan lab / coroner fuck-up.  Death of a 7 year old at a picnic is from choking 99.9999% of the time.

In order for an average weight 7 year old to die from LSD intoxication, she would have to have consumed thousands of tabs.  How many tabs would YOU bring to a picnic, if there were any there at all???

how exactly did they ascertain it was lsd that did it? If it took her some time to pass away it seems it would be difficult for a mere coroners office to be able to identify LSD as the sole cause. Unless she was given so much that it was evidently present in a toxicology analysis, in which case it would be deliberate homicide and LSD is no more to blame than water would be if the person that administered it had decided to drown her instead. It is evidently another attempt to link LSD one of the least harmful illicit drugs to some fatalaty.

Some time ago I emailed the DEA posing as a researcher from my university requesting confirmed cases of deaths resulting from the use of Mescaline, Psyclocibin, LSD, methamphetamine, and heroin where the deaths were caused only by the substances named. Knowing full well that the deaths for the psychedelics in the list would be very meager indeed especially when compared to heroin and meth and lets not forget alcohol and tobacco. The only reply I received was a short blunt response consisting only of a refusal to disseminate to me the information requested.
I should think it alarming that they would not do so, what harm could come from knowing how many people have died from them? if the statistics are as bad as they seem to think them to be would it not act as a great deterrent in and of its own right?

It is incredibly frustrating when they allow activities that are clearly profoundly more harmful (smoking, drinking alcohol etc) while they prohibit useful and altogether intellectually promising practices like the responsible use of psychedelics.

First... Why is a Justice of the Peace talking about cause of death??

Has to be a coroner.... Medical examiner....

And yes, how was LSD confirmed?  Sort of makes me wonder if the girl was given LSD to cover up something... Physical or sexual abuse... Can see where I am heading on that one...

Would think there is 'more to the story' but the crappy news reporter was To lazy to get it all or get it right.... I know people have taken a LOT of LSD before... Without dying

although I wouldn't discount the possibility that "a girl dies, let's blame drugs" for this story. 

It's just too long ago and too little information to really know what happened.

While I don't know if LSD does the same things, psilocin has shown to be much more dangerous to young children than to teens and adults.  Apparently rapid rise in body temps causing convulsions have been noted (or at least implicated - here too could be an opportunity to blame drugs!!).

So I guess what I'm saying is I have absofuckinglutely no opinion,

in fact, I should just remove this post :huxleyfacepalm:

I was able to find this little bit of additional information in a different paper using Google's news archive. It seems to imply that an adult dosed her on purpose, and offers a simplified explanation of "it affected the breathing center in her brain".

One thing to note is that this paper says the girl passed away in the last week (article was from March 25, 1970). The original article above says the girl passed away on February 1, 1970. About a month and a half earlier. Strange...

And last Jan. 25, a 7-year-old girl was fed a mystery dose of LSD at a picnic in Austin. It affected the breathing center in her brain and she died last week. Laura Massey probably had no idea what she was taking when she took LSD.

1970, I can imagine somebody giving kids acid. Y'all aren't old enough to remember the good old days.
And if they didn't give it to the kids, they might have been too messed up to notice the kids taking it.

lol, well buddy I didn't write the article. I don't believe the article is accurate, and neither does anyone else who responded. In fact, I posted it so it can be scrutinized and further explored for additional details, not as a factoid regarding the dangers of LSD use. As for it not being interesting, that's your opinion.

Certainly more interesting to me than an amazing thread such as "Good Places to Trip in So Cal". That's pretty lame if you ask me.

Doc_T that could of happened but it didn't. It's a lie. Most of the news is altered in some way. I'm surprised the US government even allows CBS to exist.
