Apple products are meant to make you IGNORE THE EVER CHANGING WORLD AROUND YOU BY FOCUSING ALL YOUR ATTENTION ON THIS LITTLE FUCKIN' SCREEN.

Plus, many morons get killed/in accidents because of their iPod. :ilold:

Lol... The Libs in California seem to think so. They are trying to pass a law making it illegal to cross the street while texting or listening to an iPod. Fortunately this has little affect on Apple products and more to do with the idiots that elect the people to pass such ridiculous laws in the first place. I also don't think the law discriminates devices with fruit logos either.

ChuangTzu has the Nokia N900.

That is definitely not changed at all by the carrier. Its running Maemo 5.

Perhaps not his version from his carrier, but other seems to be able to. That article came up when I was searching to see what carriers have that phone, or similar available. Verizon didn't come up, and AT&T includes the UVerse crap that my iPhone doesn't.

Inside the US, the carrier crapware is a huge complaint for a lot people but most do very little to try to prevent it. Internationally, it's a totally different story.

For the new iPad 2, it is rumored to have a 2048 x 1536 pixel display.  How about Motorola's new Xoom running Android 3.0?  1280800 pixels.  There is just a fundamental difference on quality that Apple has always strove for.  I respect it, and I wish companies like Motorola and Google would take it as seriously.  Though 3.0 looks pretty sweet from what I've seen.

i cant remember if i brought this up in this thread or not..

i dont like how Apple deliberately withholds features so that it can tout them as major improvements in later hardware revisions. the next version of the iPad will undoubtedly be more competitive with the Xoom but still probably lack standard features.

i still think all tablets are dumb though.. i see no need for them at all.

i don't have a tablet, but they seem like they'd potentially be a pretty enjoyable way to read a pdf or cbr file to me... aside from that, i wouldn't want one either...

i'm more annoyed that apple deliberately withholds features like microsd cards from their iphone/ipad... i have to wonder if it's more to charge you their premium on storage or restrict you from controlling your media the way you'd want to....  for example, before you can sync with itunes on another computer that it's not linked with, itunes will force you to format the device....  totally unacceptable to me.

I havent owned an actual ipod in some time. But I grabbed stuff off friends' itunes libraries for years. I just set it to "manual" manage.

with an iphone at any rate, manually managing lets you drag and drop files as opposed to syncing your entire music directory or a playlist.. still forces you to format if you switched computers...

also, imo, "manually managing" music would be if the device mounted as a drive so that you could just copy your music independently of itunes..  with apple devices you can't manually manage shit....

You can sync all music prograams with itunes and you can get senuti and put songs from ipod onto your computer. Then there are absolutely no restrictions.

I love  the ipods, but everything else apple makes I find inferior
to other PCs and Phones, but wayyy more expensive. Shitty deal, ok
product.

meh.. im not too crazy about the ipod either..

the itunes/ipod library organization is archaic at best. it was great 6 years ago but the time has come where they need to break compatibility. and this is Apple.. they have no problem dumping tech only 3 years old.

id love to see a media player where Rockbox is the default firmware. they are doing some amazing things.. i think it still needs a transfer protocol but thats for another discussion.

My android phone just mounts as a drive to my desktop, no need for any software to manage my music.  Between the music I have on its storage and the ability to stream all the music from my pc over 3g, I don't even bother with owning an mp3 player that doesn't function the way I want it to.

Apple bought Lala, a music streaming company, last year and still hasn't publicly done anything with it but rumors are that Apple is stepping up its cloud syncing and MobileMe services in the near future. They will need a way to compete with Android's streaming and syncing model to retain market share. IMO, that is the ONLY thing Android has over iOS. Competition is good and as a result I think we will see a free version of MobileMe. They already made the Find My iPhone/iPad free, which is a really good service.

I have Sirius radio and my iPhone streams that. So while it is inferior in some comparisons, in all actuality it does everything I need in some fashion, albeit different than Android.

There's nothing that says freedom more than actually using my phone the way I want with all the wireless signals turned on (push notifications, GPS, bluetooth, wireless, 3G, etc) and still able to use the phone all day long without worrying it will go dead. Compare the list of "features" Android has compared to iOS, and Android will easily win. Personally I choose battery, usability, and the AppStore > Android's openness and features.

This is not really a fair comparison. You are comparing the entry level product of a first year device that isn't even released, to high end device of product that has been out for a year. That's not saying much for Motorola. All those specs are arbitrary, because the end user is not affected by them. If my piece of software runs perfectly fine with a fraction of the specs (as in no noticeable lag or computation time) then more specs would not actually do anything for the user, except for giving some person a peace of mind. With tablets, it's the software that really drives them, not the specs. I have an iPad and while with some apps it's a little laggy (compared to the spec superior iPhone), but most of the time things happen instantly, just like on my iPhone and my 2.66Ghz dual core i7, despite having just a fraction of the computational power and only 256MB of memory!

The Xoom doesn't have a leg to stand on outside the geek and Apple hater community. If a person wants an iPad, they can get one for $499 or spend over $800 for one with more storage than the Xoom for like $30 more, and you get ton of Apps. The entry level buy in is the price that matter and will grab the market share, not a side by side comparison of arbitrary specs that will be matched in a couple weeks (before the Xoom ships).

The only spec that matters with Xoom in comparison to the iPad, is the screen resolution. I am not sure if the iPad2 will have a better screen, or if that revision will occur in the 2.5 (or 3.0) iteration of the iPad (which both have been rumored.)

First things first- as a user of windows/linux, I would say that I'm somewhat bias.

Continuing on, Apple products have their downfalls. Just like any other product out there. Personally, I really like the ipod because it's one of the few mp3 players that can store my entire music collection (100gb+). I hate iTunes and all of the restrictions with the ipod, but it does the job I want it to; I can't complain.

There's a lot of hate on Apple out there- and I was one of those people for a long time. But in reality, Apple products aren't half bad. If you like them, buy them. Some people like having their hand held the entire way using computers. Some people don't. I got nothing against either group.

More vaporware from Motorola, the Xoom will not have flash upon release. http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/21/motorola-xoom-will-ship-without-flash-support-on-february-24th/

The funny thing is, they had a special promo page made in flash and redirected iOS devices (which don't have flash) to a specific page saying they didn't have access to the full web, while redirecting desktop clients without flash to an HTML based web page (which should have been the default anyway). Point is, companies do stupid marketing stunts like this are only letting the door hit their ass on the way out of Apple's party. And going on Motorola's own history of software updates with their Android handsets, the Xoom won't get lavished with the updates Motorola would have one believe. Companies like Motorola only make gimmicky products, are never innovative, and never fully deliver.

I wouldn't go that far.  Motorola is a very large company that has a huge portfolio of products, many of which are far superior to anything else on the market.  I would agree with you, in general, on many of their consumer electronic products.

agreed. plus apple has silly prices, silly policies and phantom support. you have to pay for everything, cannot open your devices, and enforces everything to be paid, it's matter of time before they'll bottle up cupertino air and will make you buy that and desert dust.

I agree to that. I should have included the consumer electronics division. I don't know everything they make, and really was implying such to the consumer devices. Your point is certainly valid. I can safely say that Motorola's last worthy consumer gadget was the Razor. Since the iPhone, they haven't done anything except mimic Apples success, which is what all the companies are doing except for maybe Palm (HP).
