H fuel cells are more realistic, start brewing up your own liquid hydrogen

For energy sources derrived from desert solar, I like the new carbonless silicon process.

Haha. I didn't know this thread was 6 years old.

All the stuff out there is theoretical. Is the projected amount that algae COULD yield. Major advances now....and yeah, Wiccan Seeker is right, more problems beyond what I posted.

I see more problems. The article Baby_Hitler posted calculated how much gas/diesel is used, then how much algi are needed to replace it.

It completely ignores the added energy cost of this huge labor intensive industry.

It says the algi can be fed off human wastewater.

8 hectare shallow ponds in the desert? Ummm biohazard anyone?

Or agricultural wastewater.. and the algi are good fertilizer.

No. The algi will greatly concentrate the pesticide residues in the waste water, becoming toxic waste that can only be incinerated.

Another thing, which algi to use?  well the most vigorously growing,m highest yielding ofcourse, genetically modified if necessary.

Those pools evaporate water so they accumulate salt. So the water must be changed.

Dumping live algi of the most vigorously growing variety in tonnage quantities in the ocean continuously will NOT be good for the ecosystem.

If your filter of algi catches 99.9% of the algi, and you produce a megaton of algi in your plant, that means a kiloton of vigorously growing, possibly GM algi will end up in the ocean, as the water gets too salty and at 1/1000 the algi concentration is not economically viable to recover. What to do? Chlorinate the 8 hectare ponds? Outrageous! No they'll dump them as bioactive waste.

I see problems with it.

Thats kind of overkill. The human wastewater comes from a waste water treatment plant. I forget where in the process the water comes from, but it goes right back into the system to be treated.

What type to use? Research papers have already decided that. As I said, akistrodesmus is one.

Microbial populations in the wastewater help with the phosphates, nitrates, nitrites, etc. There are pilot facilities everywhere. It is possible, its at the research stage.

Also, did you know that you can make biodiesel from Delicious Bacon?
