I'm kind of conflicted on this.  On the one hand, sure California should be able to legalize medical marijuana and not have the Feds fuck with them.  On the other hand, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 involved a broad interpretation of the Interstate Commerce Clause, and I still think it was the right thing to do.  I think there are certain human rights that transcend states' rights.  I also think there are certain crises that are just too big to be handled at a state level.  On the whole, though, I agree, and would like to see more localization on a political, social, and economic level.

Disclaimer:  I come in peace.  I am not here to take away your guns or extend the waiting period or anything like that.  I'm just trying to inquire about your interest in guns.  Please don't shoot.

So, what's the deal?  What do you get out of guns?  I mean, I understand having a hunting rifle, and I think hunting can be a good thing compared to eating factory-farmed animals.  I also understand why you might want to be armed in case someone breaks into your house while you're there, however unlikely that might be.  But those are practical concerns, and would just make guns another tool.  What I don't get is the whole "gun enthusiast" thing.  What's so awesome about guns that you'd want to arm yourself to the teeth?  I've shot a shotgun and a rifle before, and I suppose it was fun, but not enough to spend thousands of dollars building an arsenal.  What is it about guns that gets people drooling over some assault rifle?

I don't get it.

My Grandfather was a gun/rifle collector, he wasn't some redneck gun enthusiast like you're talking about (he didn't have assault rifles and shit, just old cowboy guns and old rifles), but like him, some regular ol' Joes collect guns the same way some people might collect pocket watches or stamps, just for the artifact value, and would like to pass 'em down to their children or grandchildren some day so they too can hold a piece of history. Guns are fun to shoot and let's face it, there's just something sexy about a Shiny .45 Colt Single-Action Revolver... It's a man thing.

I showed my revolver to this ultra-liberal, anti-gun chick i was friends with, and while she might have hated guns and politically was against it, there was no doubt that she was turned on when she saw me holding it.

EDIT:  Just for the record, in case you were wondering... I'm a Libertarian; economically conservative, socially liberal, and I'm a musician, writer and an artist... not everyone who likes and owns hand-guns are Thugs or Redneck nut jobs, most of us are regular sane people.

Your right. No one is proposing to outlaw firearms.... I agree.

As for regulation... I find to be Bull  :poop:
Thats just a "win" for the opposition. and that brings them one step closer to a victory...

trust me there are people who wish all guns were outlawed.
just like there are people who wish all guns were legal.

The laws now IMO are to strict when it comes to ownership. why can private citizen now own sound suppressors? (probally because they are used in the movies and have a ohhh and ahhh factor because special agents and hitman use them in hollywood) they are an effective for of earing protection. but someone thinks they can kill you better.... thats bull :poop: IMO

I want no simple or easy "win" for people who want to reform gun laws... I am tired of reforms that take more rights away... enough is enough. If someone wants to own a ar-15 then it is his god given right to own a ar-15 with a 30 round magazine... bayonet stud and all the other bells and whistles that make a ar-15 a ar-15...
:piss: gun reform

I'm fine with this, and support gun safety courses and background checks to make sure that the right people are getting guns.  I also believe in more strict licensing requirements for more dangerous guns such as machine guns.  As it happens, this is exactly what current gun laws do.  The effect is that very few criminals are able to get their hands on machine guns.

I don't agree... I would rather see the ability to qualify for a firearm more strict. there are people who should not own a bb gun or hunting rifle let alone a pistol but can legally...

But there are people who should be able to own a suppressed glock 45 or an ar 15 with a million round clip... or better yet a m2 browning .50 cal machine gun that shoot full auto and it belt fed.

so i would like to see a more strict initial qualification that looks as psychological mental and criminal history

and a less strict on those who qualify.

Silversoul said:
Well, sort of.  Note that the second amendment mentions militias.  The idea was that states would have their own militias that they could call up if the need arose.  Such militias would be composed of citizens of those states, and would require that those citizens be armed.

And they have it. It is called the National Guard.

seems that the criminals that get their hands on them dont go through
the background checks or fill out the first ATF form, crazy as it
sounds, they acquire illegal SMGs through the black market, so all
tighter regulation ever does is restrict the law abiding citizens from
obtaining them...

Also, due to the fact that roughly 50% of the house holds in the USA have guns, we have the lowest rates of OCCUPIED home invasions in the world. Why? The criminals know there is a good chance they are gonna get killed if they break in when someone is home so they make damn sure there is no one there before they break in.

In the hoods around me they like to throw a brick through the window and wait 10 minutes. If no one comes out and no police roll up, game on.

in the US, even 34% of the liberals own firearms yet it's the liberals
that fight the hardest against gun ownership, Senator Dianne Feinstein was
one of the most vocal anti-gun democrats yet she owned a pistol and had a
concealed carry permit issued by California, how's that for hypocracy

and we have an 88.8% ownership rate for firearms in this country

last year I believe it was that a woman shot and killed some kid after a
rock was thrown through her window and started breaking into her home,
she was an older black woman in a high crime neighborhood and obviously
the kids (about 14yo) were just checking the place for occupancy, the
way I see it, she saved the tax payers millions because that little
fucker wont be prosecuted for a dozen crimes over the next 50 years, he
wont be victimizing anyone else in the future... give that lady a medal

Well you could call it Hypocrisy or you could just say she was doing her job...

Typically Senators and Congressmen vote and speak out on behalf of
the people who elect them or for there political party... You CAN
call it Hypocrisy if her personal views are anti-gun yet she owns a
gun but that would make not a lot of sense...
(I am to lazy right now to try and research about her personal views so all in all she may be a Hypocrite...)
maybe she is in that small 30 percentile? but because thats what
the people wanted and what her party stood for she let her personal
views aside to do her job... and serve the people of California in
what THEY want and not what SHE wants... that is there job after
all...

It dont bother me a when a politician says one thing and fights for that one thing because thats what the people who elected him/her
want and voted for or petitioned or lobby for, yet the politician personal view maybe totally different... To me that shows that that
politician is doing whats right and setting there personal beliefs aside and doing what they are expected to do and that is serving
the american people... I actually think more highly of a politician for doing that because if you think about it... that is how you
know they can be trusted. are are honest. and loyal to the american people and not some politician agenda to serve there own personal
or professional agenda or even financial agenda....

the people of California are liberals in a general... and majority are anti gun... so maybe she was just doing her job?

or maybe she was a out right hypocrite?

Now say your still growing up and you mom tells you not to cuss....
but she cusses... or tells you not to smoke pot but she smokes pot
that is hypocritical... IMO it is hard to call someone a hypocrite
if it is job related... like a police officer agree's with the
legalization of marijuana, yet will still give a ticket to someone
who uses it. thats just doing there job in upholding there civil
service they took an oath to do. weather they agree with it or not
I consider that being a good police officer or being a professional
in what you do. your not going to agree with doing everything that is
asked of you in your life. but you just have to do it. like soldiers
in the war alot may not agree with it but they will still do what
there country asked of them. because they swore and took an oath
to do it because that is what is required...

the flip side would be a police officer use's marijuana. something he is not allowed to do while on the force. and then writes a ticket... that is hypocrite.

a manager of a store is late all the time... but fires an employee who is late all the time... that is a hypocrite...

an active anti-war protester who denounces the war and military up and signs up and goes to war and still actively protests the war... thats a hypocrite...

one entitles duty.
the other is hypocritical

bills that have gone through congress, bills like the bail outs for huge

The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it. -Thomas Jefferson

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government. -Thomas Jefferson

“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.” -Thomas Jefferson Quoting Cesare Beccaria

When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty. -Thomas Jefferson

God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty.... And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure. -Thomas Jefferson
^ This quote in particular is the reason american rights are being trampled... American are to afraid to stand up and rebel or protest or walk on capitol hill with 1 person or a million persons... americans would rather just watch football the latest reality t.v. show, jersey shore or go shopping.

I do not add “within the limits of the law,” because law is often but the tyrant’s will, and always so when it violates the right of an individual. -Thomas Jefferson

The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first. -Thomas Jefferson

Unfortunately, he was dead wrong about that.  It's precisely when government fears its people that they start cracking down on dissent and enacting intrusive laws that violate people's privacy, and even start banning weapons.  The optimal condition for liberty is when there is mutual respect between a government and its people.

Mutual respect between government and its people... the people are the government and rightfully so.

A person views himself as a Man (or Woman)
A Government views itself as a country.

It is not until the reverse  happens

The people view themselves as the Country
The Government views itself as the People.

As for Government to view itself as Equal and the people it Governs is to be a tyrant. The Government is there to Serve the people. But to be Created as a Equal. You will never have a Optimum condition for liberty until the government serves it people. You will have borderline Tyranny!

That is why Americans need to stop being such pussies. Unite and stand up for there rights. And take back there government from Big Corporation.

Merchants have no country. The mere spot they stand on does not constitute so strong an attachment as that from which they draw their gains. -Thomas Jefferson.

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. -Thomas Jefferson

Every citizen should be a soldier. This was the case with the Greeks and Romans, and must be that of every free state. -Thomas Jefferson

All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent. -Thomas Jefferson.
