besides adblock (which is essential for the web)..

vimperator. id die without it. it gives firefox vim-like keybindings. vim is a bad ass text editor. vimperator essentially eliminates the need for a mouse.. its all keyboard driven. the only time when i actually need to use a mouse is when dealing with flash.. im pretty good every other time.

although lately ive been using Conkeror which is a super slim standalone browser based on firefox to act like emacs (another text editor). ive customized the config file so it acts like vim though.

other than that.. download statusbar (fits really nicely with vimperator), and for web dev stuff i use firebug, colorzilla, and measure it pretty much daily.

I just installed Adblock.  Not sure what I'm missing actually, because I have a way of blocking those out with my mind already.  I don't even see them.  But this should reduce my load time.

I can't believe no one has said session manager.  The most important tool I've ever used...ever.  You can save lots of related groups of information within windows or whole browsing sessions (multiple windows).

Absolutely amazing feature.

Just saw this somewhere:

Firefox:

1. In the address bar, type: about:config
2. Locate and change the following values (by double-clicking on them):
network.http.max-connections = 45 (default is 24)
network.http.max-connections-per-server = 15 (default is 8)
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy = 10 (default is 4)
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server = 10 (default is 2)
network.http.pipelining = true (default is false)
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests = 4 ( default is 4)
network.http.proxy.pipelining = true (default is false)

AND HERES A LIST OF ADD-ONS TO GET...

Scrapbook, for saving web pages.

Answers.com
plugin is great because it allows one to ALT+Click on any word in the browser and a little definition for the word pops up.

This threads great, I just upgraded my browser with tons of addons.

OP which one specifically do you use that allows you to simply highlight a word and have the dictionary definition pop up next to it, or did I just horribly misinterpret what you were saying.

Edit::foreheadslap: I just looked at the last post and realized it was the answers add on I already had/never used. Either way this thread is worth continuing

Idiot suggested it to me the other day and I downloaded it, but I didn't know what else to use it on except to download youtube videos.  And I already have the Firefox youtube downloader, which downloads in the same quality.  So I got rid of it.

i seem to remember that you're into a musical group called the Grateful Dead. With that being the case you might know something about a website called the Internet Archive, which houses hundreds if not a thousand or so live concerts the Dead played.

all of those soundboard shows are "streaming only" and "unavailable for download".

i think you can see why someone who is into the Grateful Dead might be interested in an add on that would rip "streaming only" songs :headbang:
