I think dreams are random and meaningless, like life.

Dream interpretation is rather pointless IMO, and assumes that there is some sort of greater meaning behind dreams, when in actuality, they are nothing but mere neural oscillations. :brainfart:


That said, I've been having some kick-ass dreams these past couple of nights. :stoned:

From experience recording my dreams on a nightly basis for the past three years I have found that there are many varieties of dreams. If you aren't receptive to your dreams you are more than likely only going to experience the most prevalent type. The best description I've heard of these type of dreams are "karmic dreams", which essentially are the patterns we exhibit in waking life carried over into the dream realm.

Other dreams, which increase in frequency when you open yourself to them, exhibit symbolism that is either latent in the subconscious or from elsewhere. Some of these dreams I have taken literally, such as a dream where I was lucid conversing with my recently passed grandfather. Other dreams have shown me that space and time are irrelevant, for I have accurately predicted sporting event outcomes.

I won't claim to have all the answers. Dreams are such a mystery. Perhaps dreams are merely the mechanism in which our own minds create meaningful meaning to positively benefit our lives. Maybe we are more intelligent on a subconscious level. Dreams are literally out of this world and make every night an exciting adventure. Maybe you need to analyze less and enjoy more.

I did have one dream a while back that kind of scared me straight. For the longest time I was really crappy about brushing my teeth and eating tons of sugar, thus my mouth is filled with lots of fillings and my mind has memories of horrible painful trips to the dentist.

One night I dreamed all my teeth were incredibly rotted and nasty, like the pictures of meth heads you see with really messed up teeth. They were falling out and I had a bag full of rotted fallen out teeth.

I have brushed my teeth at least once a day since then, and no longer eat candy or sugar.

How do you know this? Can't it just be that it only appears to exhibit such symbolism because you're looking for it?

How consistently can you do this? Even if you're right every time, what does that have to do with whether or not your dreams are symbolic of your waking life?

Meaningful meaning? Redundancy much?

Not all dreams positively benefit our lives (e.g. nightmares), so I don't really agree with your statement.

There's no proof that we even have a subconscious, maybe you mean unconscious:

To think that my dreams are necessarily symbolic of my unconscious mind would be false IMO.

The terms 'dream' and 'waking life' are not synonymous--we only have multiple words that describe the same thing if those words are synonyms.
