i have this friend you might know him...Gary Coleman, yea he's a good friend of mine. He was tellin me one day that he couldnt afford a PC but had aquired some boiling chips, he was wondering if using these he could fill pot a little higher with water than just an inch when sterilizing. If he cant or it wont help how do you keep the water filled up since it evaporates so quickly? Arent you not even supposed to open the lid to retain the steam? I kno its a dumb question, but heh, that Gary, hes such a silly little guy.

start with a little more water....the chips will help to keep jars off the bottom of the pot...the chips are designed for microwave use but will work in a pot for steaming, unfortunately their design is to give the water additional surfaces to begin boiling from....producing the bubbles....because of this it will cause the water to evaporate faster so a domed lid with a lip on the inside is esential, the condensation can drip back into the pot.....
