Hi,

I am about to start my first grow soon, I have ordered Amazonian and Golden Teacher spore syringes from sporeworks..

I recently read the thread about the PF-Birdseed tek, and I went and got some Pennington's wild bird seed as suggested..

I have to get the Scott's 2-in-1 compost mix and vermiculite/brf still, but I will get them soon..

I have Kerr 1/2 pint jars which I will be using..

My question is, how much birdseed to add along with the standard PF tek recipe ?

just use wbs instead of brf .
brf is not needed IMO. but you will need a pc for whole grain .

I'm not using grain, so what does my question have to do with grain ?

wbf = wild bird seed . you will need to pc it because it is  whole grain

Dudes calm down. I got it right here.
10 parts bird seed (steeped in a pot with hot water till they expand, then drain the water)
3.5 parts Brown rice flour
2 parts flax seed meal (said to increase potency)
5 parts verm
and water to consistancy (depending on your humidity this will be diffrent)
A tip: use the water you get out of the steeping pot

Semper: I didn't know about the 'flax' part, where to get that?

Also, I am not very good at math or any kind of measuring stuff.. so can you explain what you mean by 'parts' ?

I mean, I can understand things like "if you want to make ten 1/2 pint jars, use 5 cups of this.. 3 cups of that, etc etc" ..

but parts, i'm not sure how that works..

I got this recipe from a spore provider (I don't want to name names, If it is soo important you can PM me about it.)    Flax seeds are supposed to contain alot of the precursor chemicals your shrooms use to make the trippy chemicals.  You should be able to find it in a health food store, pretty much in the same section you would find the brown rice flour.
As for the parts part  :smirk: you could replace the word "part" with "cup" if you prefer or "half cup"  or even "10000000000 cups".  Its called a ratio (pronounced rAy-shO, ask your math teacher about it) you can use any measurements you want but just keep it consistant
and I am sorry to say that I am too lazy to do your math

Okay so if I replace the word 'parts' with 'cups', since I like to use cups for my measuring needs.. then you're saying I need to mix 10 cups WBS, 3.5 cups BRF, 2 cups flax seed meal, 5 cups verm, and water until it's field capacity ?

.. How many 1/2 pint jars will that take care of ?

.. What is 'steeping' I've never heard this term, I assume it means to boil in water ?
After the WBS has been boiled, how do I know when they're good to go into my mix? And what do I want to use the same water for why not fresh water ?

Also, I'm chill, sorry to go overboard guys, I was just frustrated and I'm under a lot of stress lately.. one reason I want to grow some mushrooms and have a nice reflective trip at Mount Rainier..

okay I'm gonna do a quick ramble and hope that you guys will correct me ..

I will make the above mix for my substrate.. using Pennington's Wild Bird Seed Mix, Brown Rice Four, Flax, and Vermiculite ..

Once my mix is prepared, I will put it into my jars and steralize as usual.. innoculating after jars are cooled the next day or so..

Then let the jars incubate as normal..

Then I am going to crumble my cakes after birthing, into a casing.. which I will use a large dark green rubbermaid container for..

At the bottom of the rubbermaid I will put a layer of limestone & crushed oyster shells, then I will put my Scott's 2-in-1 compost/soil and then I will crumble my cakes onto that layer.. then I will cover with 50/50 verm/soil and hand mist & hand fan daily ..

Is this correct ? (i skipped all the fiddly bits in between because I am familiar with them for the most part, i just want to get the basic overview)

Any feedback is more than appreciated
