cold shocking is diff with casing than jars. With casing you want to drop the temp around 10-15 degrees (take it off the incubator) after it is colonized until it starts to pin. When it starts to pin you can raise the temp or just leave it as it is.

cold shocking cubies is a waste of time, imo.
but if you insist, try putting the tray in your fridge every day for an hour or two until you see pins forming.

indeed cold shocking in a fridge for a few hours a day is a waste.. if tht is what you consider "cold-shocking" it doesn't suprise me you havent seen a point in it. But lowering the constant tempature 10-15 degrees below incubation tempature does have an effect on cubensis, provided it is constant.

hippie, maybe you should read up on some good cultivation books.

lol
i've read the books, dude.

you tell me one where it says that cubies respond to cold shock.

btw, lowering the temp from 85* (incubation) to 70* (fruiting), a drop of 15 degrees, is NOT 'cold shocking'.

then explain to me how i've been able to grow hundreds of batches over the last 10 years and never once bothered to cold shock my cubies.

then go over to ADM and try explainng to the growers there how they aren't supposed to be getting good crops because they don't cold shock their cubies either.

since i always attempt to prove what i say, here's a post which describes true cold shocking.
note that it's just a few hours in the fridge.

I have heard people say stuff about cold shocking. How do you so this and what does it do. If my cakes go in at different times and I shock cakes that have been in the terrarium for a week or so, would this hurt it? details would be great.

I've had excellent results with putting jars in the fridge overnight immediately before birthing. Leaving them in for ca 3 hours seems to lead to a minor improvement. -MG

Put them in the fridge for about 1 hour. That way, everything will reach about 40-50 degrees. Just make sure that your fridge's temp isn't set low enought to freeze them.

Has anyone had any positive results by
putting PF (Cubensis) jars in the fridge
overnight to initiate pinning?
My buddy says he's done it on jars which
were colonized, but slow to pin.
It works on Shiitakes.

I just cover with saran wrap and pop them in the fridge for a couple of hours, and then back into the terarium, I do it 2 days in a row and lo and behold, pinning starts. I cover them so they dont get contaminated by fridge nasties.

told ya so.
