Amazonian Help

I have just cast (50/50+) Amazonian using rye berries as my substrate. I was looking up pics and found the following on MushMush website: "This Amazonian strain produces very thick and fleshy mushrooms. Although it is not the easiest strain to grow it may, if properly managed, produce some very nice flushes. The number of mushrooms may not be very big, the size more than compensates for this. Fruitbodies are very solid and have a massive stem. Cold-shocking is definitely required for this one or else the mycelium will completely cover the casing and this makes watering impossible. This condition also causes mushrooms to only form on the sides of the trays (which will lower your yields)" Has anyone grown this strain before without cold shocking? If I need to cold shock then when do I refridgerate them and how long? I was under the impression that Psilocybe cubensis do not need to be cold shocked. Can someone please correct me if I am wrong. THANKS, as always!

I've fruited them without cold shock but it took me a long time. Though, it was not a casing. I really suggest that you cold-shock them. Put the casing in the fridge for 24h. Read the new FAQ if you want more infos. You'll see, the fruits are really robust. I've made my first trip out of these !

I will start off by saying that p. c does not require cold shocking! Now I am going to spread a little misinformation here. IMO cold shocking is a very helpful technique for ALL strains of cubies. IME it prevents overlay, and stimulates a quicker pinset. Every casing dude does is cold shocked! If done properly, it can help you get a nice even flush over multiple trays. Since there are 2 phases, requiring different conditions, to worry about after initiation, it is important that your trays are at the same point when beginning initiation(especially if you have only one fruiting chamber). cold shocking IME allows you to stall the trays that are farther ahead until others are ready. Sorry to go against dogma here, but I feel we must in order for us to progress as a species!

I have read the archives and used the search and I can't get a difinitive answer. They all seem wishy washy. If others have personal experience I can use som advice please. The mycelia has just started to grow on top of the casing layer.

Cold shock it when ready. It can't harm ! Or you may want to test if it fruits without cold shock in order to give us the results :-)

Leave it outside overnight - always works for me if they need a shock to remind them what they're supposed to be doing. Are they Pes amazonians or another type??
