Version 3.2 and Amazonians

About two months ago I used the Magik Mush Growers Guide 3.2 to grow some Cubensis Amazonian spores I got from Sporeworks... Everything went well...no contamination, etc.. However I got little to no fruiting. LITLLE DID I KNOW THAT THEY NEEDED TO BE COLD SHOCKED. THAT GUIDE AS WELL AS SPOREWORKS LEFT THAT DETAIL OUT. IN any case, I put all my cakes in my backyard and got ready to make some new jars. Well...two weeks later, the cakes in my yard, are all sprouting some impressive shrooms. I havent tried any of them yet and I have to admit that I am a little bit scared...They look they should...but what if they are poisonous... Can anyone giove me some advice? Also, can you give me some advice about cold shocking/methods....

Well, if the shrooms are the amazonians that you planted in the backyard, and you're sure of it, then go ahead and eat/dry them. Are they growing in the exact place you planted them? Do they look like Amazonians? It's highly unlikely that it's some other wild poisonous mushroom that just happens to be growing in the same place where you put the amazonians...

And you don't always have to cold shock a cake/casing for it to fruit... This can help, but isn't necessary. That's why those teks leave it out. Other factors contribute to pinning... Light, humidity, temp., etc.

Cold shocking is when you take your cake/casing and make it cold... This can be done by putting it outside at night (when it's cold) or by putting it in the fridge, etc. Just make sure it's not too cold (freezing) or the mycelium might die. Also, make sure that the cake/casing is covered up so no contam's can get to it (b/c it's known that the fridge is "contamination city") Keep it cold for 6-24 hours tops, then return it to normal temp.

There are strains of amazonians that usually require cold shocking to prevent overlay - such as the variety available on mushmush, etc... Generally, if your having trouble fruiting any cubies, it does not hurt to cold shock them...
