MR, PFE, Amazonian, PF Classic, so forth... HELP!
    #518736 - 01/12/02 06:38 PM (23 years, 4 months ago)

I am currently cultivating two strains namely the PF (fat ass thing) and the Matias Romero (which a am yet to see fruit). I have seen post saying that these are the same e.g.:

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=Forum2&Number=418303&Forum=All_Forums&Words=matias%20romero&Match=Entire%20Phrase&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=allposts&Main=418303

Now, these guys:

www.smartbotanics.nl

sell both PFE (PF Amazonian) and Matias Romero. What is this all about? Which is which? Am I cultivating the same strain here?

Thanks

PF used to only sell one strain. PF CLASSIC=Matias Romero -spelling? - (these are the same).

Other PF strains are renamed strains from other vendors/hunters.

They were nicknamed amazonians because of thier large size.

From SmartBotanics.nl:

PFE:
The original strain from Psylocybe Fanaticus (P. Cubensis - var. "Amazonian")

Matias Romero:
This genotype is named after the Mexican village Matias Romero, the place where it was collected first by the famous American doctor and mycologist Stephen Pollock.

So they sell the same type with different names?

This is so annoying, I really want this straightened up. Thanks for the replys, but I just haven't understood it yet.

pf never revealed where his spores came from. He just said that the mushrooms looked like the Matias Romero in a picture so thats what he called them. Maybe I should make that more clear on my webpage but it IS under construction. My MR page is a simple one line at the moment.

I just did a search in the Vendors forum for "Matias Romero" and found 3 posts. None that explained the connection between the PF Amazonian, the Matias Romero and the PF Classic. However, I'm going there right now to start a new post. Maybe it belongs there. Thanks!

I just emailed smartbotanics about it, and maybe i'll get an answer from them. Thanks.

*sigh* :)

Maybe you think this i s rediculous, but I really wanna know what I'm groing.

Further research show that there is
(1) PFE Amazonian (smartbotanics.nl)
(2) PF Amazonian (Everywhere)
(3) PES Amazonian (SporeWorks, pictures)

*grasp*

zilch (whom who feels extremely annoying but still desperate for THE answer)

(sorry, thanks)

Please Max, PF never called the PF Classic 'Matias Romero' - he only said that other vendors have mistakenly named it that.
The Matias Romero - PF Classic - PES Amazonian are all different and mushmush.nl have another large amazonian strain available there as well.

Now I thought Amazonians were so named because the originated near the Amazon. I recently posted a question on the the origination of Golden Teachers which no had a definitive answer. I think it important that we who grow owe it to ourselves, those who will inherit our spores and methods, and to the sacredness of the mushrooms themselves to preverve a heritage other than simply using the mushrooms to get "high". Does anyone know of good geneology? The identification guides (Stamets) are great but when dealing with the numerous subspecies as most growers do we seem woefully lacking.

pf never said other vendors mistakenly called it MR....bullshit on you bluemeanie. He said others vendor call it that, it never said mistakenly. And why would he? pf himself originally called it that before renaming it after himself.

Amazonian: spores from the amazon OR a *nickname* for large pf shrooms

pf classic: an isolated 'superstrain' if you may of his strain

pf strain: id'ed by pf as being Matias Romero becuase 'it looked like the picture'.

pf's identification methods may leave something to be desired but nevertheless, he called it MR and so, so have many others. Enough that it is now commonly called by many MR, even though it may not have originated in the actual town of MR.

Then again, maybe they did. Nobody here can prove otherwise.

And thats all I have to say on that, argue amongst yourselves.

MR = PF classic/PF

Amazonian = something else other than PF Classic/PF/MR

honestly max you are the last person to say bullshit on me with your bullshiting record - anyway - i have grown PF classic straight from PF and i have grown isolates of the matias romero from mushmush (i think) and they had different fruiting characteristics. I used to believe they were the same thing - now im not so sure.
PF to my knowledge said that a picture of the MR LOOKED like the pf strain - he never said it was.
