Hm, I'd shellac that thing and wax it, Give it a good seal and make it look pretty.

I made this in highschool.

Edit, forgot the img code

Um, actually its a pretty nasty neurotoxin , but only until it dries. Paint it outside, don't breath the fumes and let it dry thoroughly. Dry poly is completely non-toxic and is great for sealing wood.

Alright! IDK if I can paint it outside, but what I can do is open the window, turn on a fan, and seal the door when I have to dry it. How long will that smell linger? Thanks you btw this is the info I was hoping for

That could work. Stay upwind of the fan while painting and let it cure a full 24 hrs. Polyurethane is a great sealant and like I said, non-toxic when cured. I've worked with it extensively. It's nasty health-wise until dry, and is deceptive because it doesn't smell that bad. Ideally, use a respirator, but keeping upwind with a fan out the window and working quickly is a good option. I'm encouraging you to use it despite the hassle because it REALLY seals up the wood. When drying, seal off the room like you said and keep a window open. In a day your problem will be over. Also, wear some gloves while applying.
