Glove box

There was a post on here earlier on easy glove boxes. The stupid search is out, so i can't find it.

A friend was thinking about just using 2 clear rubbermaid tubs placed opening to opening duct taped at the seam with 2 holes cut for arms (in the bottom tub).

He plans on using a bunsen burner, but is wary of the possible consequences of flames inside. This seems possibly dangerous.

Another question:

Wouldn't the flame soon use up all of the oxygen in the chamber and either create a draft inward (bringing in contams), or would heat cause a draft outward (still no new oxygen)?

while on the subject of flame sterilisation what exactly in the spirit used in alchol burners as ive tryed methalted spirit(dont use this is fucking smoky) and surgical spirit which is less smoky but still leaves a sooty mark like a cigaret lighter does?

no-tone when i was using a glove box i had a filtered air line pumping air into the box to create air flow moving from inside to out allowing fresh oxygene into the box. This was a home made filter using pollyfiber and a clear container with the air line going into the container the pollyfilbre filtering it the an air pipe from the container leading into the box.Hope this helps.

What about running an air pump thru some water --> glove box?

Would that trap any suspended particles in the water making the output free of contams??

might well do and if you add bleach or h2o2 as well as an air stone for smaller surface area to the bubbles if could be even better.Worth trying i would say.Though i havent done this it is what i do when running air into my indoor walmart style green house. But there i also use the same inline home made air filter.Do you wont me to take a picture for better visulisation?but basicaly all you need it a container like a camera film case(only transparent is better cos you can see when you need to change the pollyfibre because it darkens near the inlet. Some contectors for the sir line that you can get in pet stores or fish tanks and a bit of sealant.

to avoid the soot, hold the instrument just above the flame, not in it.

You need to really stuff the pollyfibre in tight and a little spray of lysol doesnt hurt things

Paid (ganja):

I used to have a little burner around here. Used 100% pure grain alchohol, which I don't think is that hard to find. Clean flame, used it for heating test-tubes and such.

Whoa man, thats super cool! So you just put the jar into the glove box?

Where does one obtain polyfibre? Would cotton do? Is it a noticable draft?

You people must get minimal contams with setups like these

when i was using a glove box i didnt use the water bottle just the filter and you dont really get a strong air flow but if you hold an incense stick near any small openings you do see a bend in the smoke screen pushing it away from the hole.

Polly fibre you can get in pet shops cos they use it in fish tank filters also its oftern pillow stuffing ext.I preffer the fish tank stuff though.cotton wool may work but i think pollyfibre is better because its synthetic so contams find it harder to establish in it.

good luck mate

no need to flame syringe needles in the glovebox.

just wipe the needle with alcohol.

My buddy is going to use just the bubblier rock in a h20/h202 solution. Do you think that will cut it for now (He couldn't find some stuff for the ployfibre filter yet)?

He plans on doing an agar-->syringe-->jars transfer.

Yeah bro.
I wipe the scalpel blade with a clean paper towel to get off any tissue residue or spores...depending on what I'm working with...then wipe the scalpel blade with a Cotton ball soaked in alcohol...I leave the Cotton ball sitting in a shot glass.

Works for me!
