Mushrooms from Salt Point 11/28/10
    #13568575 -

Craterellus tubarformis

Inocybe sp.

Notes: Under a tree that looks a bit like alder.

Cheilocystidia of at least four types, ovoid, clavate, fusiform, or conical, often with metuloid encrustations at the apex.

Pleurocystidia fusiform with encrustations at the apex.

Spores minutely verrucose, 8 × 4 micrometers, ellipsoid and slightly inequalateral.

Pileipellis

Cheilocystidia

Pleurocystidia

Spores

Hydnum repandum

Not really sure about this ID.  The small size suggests H. umbilicatum but the nearly round spores point to H. repandum.

Spores stained with safrenin

Tylopilus porphyrosporus

Cantharellus subaldibus

Gomphus floccosus

Fistulina hepatica

Marasmius androsaceus

Growing from a fern frond.

Cortinarius sp. (subgenus Myxacium)

Cortinarius vanduzerensis

Gymnopilus sapineus

pileipellis

cheilocystidia

Capitate cheilocystidia

Unknown sp.

Lyophyllum decastes

Gymnopilus croceoluteus

Laccaria amethysteo-occidentalis

I illuminated the gills in this picture by using the flash and holding the camera upside down.

Entoloma aprile

Wonderful post Alan, informative as always...  That Cortinarius vanduzerensis looks simply magical (no, not like that...). And I love what you did you illuminate the gills on that Laccaria amethysteo-occidentalis - if I ever get a new digital camera I will have to remember that technique!

And where exactly is Salt Point, if you don't mind me asking? Northern California I'm guessing? And that Fistulina hepatica was one strange looking specimen, was it tasty?

Appreciate you sharing!

I flip the camera upside down and use the flash for most of the mushroom pics I take.  Really adds to the picture.  The location of the flash on top of the camera is not good for mushrooms.  Shroomydan's idea.

2 hours north of San Francisco.

Ok but not great.  Maybe it would have been better if we had not run out of propane while we were cooking it.  Actually there was a fresh can of propane in my trunk but I did not know it at the time.

The only people that can post pics as good as Bob are Inski and Lord Mayonayse.  Soon I will be able to take pictures of that quality.

It turned out to be a good thing that she was wearing that hat because it made it really easy to see her and make sure I was far away.  You can't really sneak up on someone at night wearing a red and white hat.

Here is the video of Ashley:

Yea it sure does.

That is not what happened though.  The sounds you hear are her cousin preventing her from stealing more of our beer.
