When to colonize in the Dark? Invitro Bags vs. PF Cakes vs. Bulk Tubs... and why?

Here in lies some confusion I am having. Currently I have colonizing PF Cakes, Bulk tubs, Songiform Block, Tuskrool invitro bags and Madbags.

"Indirect lighting Colonization"; PF Cakes, Tuskrools Invitro bags, and Spongiform Blocks according to the respective Teks.

"In the Dark Colonization"; Mad Bags, and Bulk Tubs.

So really, is it best to colonize ALL these in the dark? ALL in indirect light?

In my mind these are actually all the same thing really. They all are colonizing a substrate in a CO2/Humidity rich environment with adequate GE, and will all fruit in their current containers.

Some of these containers will have their O2 levels drastically increased... The PF Cakes, the Spongi Block, and the Tubs.

Some will fruit 100% Invitro like the tuskrools and Madbags... though may open them up for increased FAE...

I would also like to add that my Sawdust/Straw bagged Oysters/SHiitake/Reishi did fine in indirect daylight.

So what gives with colonizing in the dark with some? Ambient light with others?

There seems to be something fundamental that I am missing.

Colonizing mycelium in full darkness is outdated information.

No matter what medium it's on, mycelium colonizes faster and benefits from being exposed to low levels of ambient light.

I agree with Hamloaf. Dark-Colonization is outdated. I assume it comes from the fact that when mycelium grows in the wild, it is generally found under-ground, under-bark, or otherwise in the "dark".

Personally, I always leave my stuff in indirect light and never have any issues.

When I first started growing fungus, I would put it in the dark because that is what everything said to do... however, I eventually ended up leaving them out of a closet, etc., and they worked just as well so that is how I always do it these days.

So, unless you have a personal reason to leave them in the dark, just leave them out.

Avoid bright direct light during colonization, but some ambient light is fine.
Agree w/ others it's old info.
But, most of the good colonization spots in your home will be dark anyway.
