I watched it several times. I have never seen a more mixed up cacophony of philosophical mishmash in all my days.
One clearly understood chapter of Aristotle would take anyone further and be of more use in their day to day life.
Nothing further indeed.

I don't see anything wrong with the movie. It's all just a bunch of different opinions designed to MAKE YOU THINK and that's exactly what it does. It does what it was designed to do regardless of wheather you liked it or not.

If it makes you think that is great. But most people are too lazy to think and will use one of the little speeches as their own "new" philosophy. I have seen this time and time again. Which is why I think the movie sucks.

Alex Jones' scene was the only part of that movie I really liked.
Too bad he was driving too fast for any passers by to catch on to his rant

Mr_Mushrooms, I think you missed the whole point........ It was SUPPOSED to contradict its own ideas, it was SUPPOSED to come at different topics from different angles.. I don't feel the movie is there to give you answers.... I feel the movie was made to present QUESTIONS that your average American will probably overlook.
I thought it was great! and really trippy on top of that I'm actually suprised you didn't dig it.... did you at least enjoy the Holy Moment scene or where he walks into that nightclub and there's a couple minutes of just music and cool visuals? heh
And dee_N_ae, I really dug that Alex Jones rant as well He really spewed out energy like I've RARELY seen - gives me that squiggley feeling in my brain
-------------------- Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me. In addition: SHPONGLE

Strumpling, I got the point. But I have watched idiots parrot the words of a particular speech because it backed up what they wanted to believe about the universe without doing the requisite thinking on their own to arrive at their conclusions.

I'm not offended at all. But you do need to read the Be Nice policy before you do offend someone by personalizing your remarks.
Yes, you do bring up a good point. The movie could get people to think. But since none of the views represented were accurate ones I wonder how many people realized that the Truth was something else?
Cheers,

It would take to long to type it all out right now. But I have commented on this before.
There are two threads that deal with this here and here. Just don't reply to them and bump them forward.
You can also look at the Philosophy links thread at the top of the forum. A trip to the Radical Academy would do you good.

Thanks guys, I never expected anyone to debate the fact that "Waking life" is a good movie. Mr_Mushrooms, I didn't mean that people should watch the movie and look no further, nor did I mean to suggest that the movie is some sort of philosophical bible. I just think it's a great film. The music is really nice and that first scene where he floats into the air is so beautiful.

If people hear something they might not agree with in the movie- it will still make them think of something to counter what was said, thus making them think. Sorry to say this Mr. Mushrooms, but you sound like you are suffering from an inflamed ego at the moment. They could have made a cheesy action flick instead of this movie- I would rather they have made this one instead.
