So, so, SO totally agree with this.

Most series finales leave you disappointed. Six Feet Under's was perfect and completely satisfying. I just sat back and went, "Wow" after I saw it.

Battlestar galactica was pretty awesome, but I hated the whole military vibe "RESPECT MY AUTHORITY OR I'M PUTTING YOU OUT THE AIRLOCK EVEN THOUGH I KNOW I'M WRONG!!!"

Well, I lied when I said I had just finished BSG when I originally posted this. I actually was about three episodes away from being finished.

Now I finally got around to finishing the series. The ending exceeded my most optimistic expectations. They knew how to end it, and possibly more importantly WHEN to end it. We've all seen TV series that have continued to be made long after their expiration dates. With Battlestar Galactica, there's a definite beginning (the miniseries) and a clear ending, and the producers knew that a story that ends when it is supposed to is a far more admirable work of art than a story that continues limping along because it's still making money.

Even more than before - and having read all of your suggestions - I find that I still consider BSG to be the best TV series I have ever watched even more now than I did when I originally posted this thread. It was so utterly satisfying to see the series end gracefully, with dignity, and with incredible beauty.

That said, I of course still plan on checking out a few of the TV series mentioned in this thread that I haven't seen! I noticed someone reccomended M*A*S*H, for example; if that isn't a sign of good taste, what is? That series singlehandedly extended the Korean war on television far longer than the war actually lasted! I would hope that some of you who haven't seen Battlestar Galactica might be inspired by my post(s) to do so as well.
