Does boiling well, kill parasites?
    #13315499 -

Found a maggot earlier, reckon it was dead. And i always check each and every shroom before boilin up but if any got through surely the boilin water would kill them off and they wouldnt be able to do you any harm?

Some of mine there looked less than tip top condition so threw them out, like they were a few days old. I wonder if they were worth boilin up as well?

the maggots are gnat larvea. they won't hurt you at all. As long as the mushrooms wheren't also very old and starting to rot, there's no problem.

I've never heard of them carrying any gi parasites.

The maggots themselves are harmless, even when they're alive. The real issue is their feces, which they leave behind in the tunnels they make. Their feces have the same pathogenic bacteria has human feces. Boiling will kill the bacteria, and the water should remove most, if not all, of the toxins that may have been produced by those bacteria.

In general, look over your mushrooms as if they were food you got from a grocery store. Would you eat a piece of fruit or a vegetable in that state? If not, throw it out. Food poisoning can be extremely serious.

Happy mushrooming!
