it sounds just like dub to me... except the bass... (which in dub, would be an actually bass sample) and the fact that it has streamlined composition for purposes of dancing in a 4/4 rhythm.

i have heard way worse of this dubstep stuff though...

Me too. I am definitely not a fan of dubstep although I am a video game addict.

Video game music sounds nothing like dubstep to me.

What's the style of games you like? My girl is HUGE on RPG's, very detail oriented.

yeah... which is a mixer and and some mixes of instruments. it's also how dub started... lol

ok; question...

what makes this...

grime or whatever... and not dubstep?

ok nevermind... it's just a question of where it comes from i guess... but it all sounds like slightly better and refurbished hip-hop to me.

and by slightly better... i mean by the standards of shit we have as todays hip-hop... which shouldn't even be called hip-hop but like i said before... WHATEVER,I SUPPOSE.

I don't think so. Most video game songs are composed about 100 times better than the mass of electronic music. They were just forced to work with limited resources.

the mass of electronic music sucks... so, you'd be right by rating video game music 100x better composed.

:yesnod:

who hears the game in this?

It's possible there's an influence (especially in chiptunes), but just like any music the progression has all sorts of roots.

Personally video game music always reminded me of people trying to make 16 bit math rock.

Yup, and video games must have influenced rag music too.

Specifically making a song to sound like video games isn't the same. Plus I'm not saying the influence doesn't exist, just saying it's hardly the reason dubstep existed (as someone already pointed out it's called dubstep because dub is somehow the biggest influence).

"video game music" is a pretty general term. I hate electronic music and dubstep, but a lot of video game music is very well composed and has nothing to do with the above genres. I'm a classical/metal fan, and there are a handful of sountracks I listen to on a regular basis. My personal favorite...

Medievil

Gallowmere Waltz

Unfortunaly not all of it is this good, but there was a time when developers concentrated on making some really good tunes to go with the games...

They both evolved at the same time.

It's a matter of technology  not the games and music based on it.
