Why hyphal knots?

If one observers straight pinning into fruitbodies durring one cultivation attempt with a particular strain, and on a second cutivation attempt with the same strain observes large hyphal knot formation with little or no pins, what could we assume is going on?

Assume the cakes from the first cultivation were not dunked while the second cakes were.

But all things being the same, why the knots instead of regular pins? Because the latter were dunked, would we assume that hydration may play a role in knots versus pins?

They always get hyphal knots. You may not see them but they are there. Most likely the mycelium further colonized your casing between the flushes.

Under what conditions do those knots that you always have go from small to fairly large?

Under fruiting conditions in general. It is the mycelium "breathing" and further establishing itself. It's a good sign :smile:

Good enough I guess. It would just seem odd if the same spores from the same syringe exhibited such differing pre-fruiting characteristics.
