Every atom in your body came from a star that exploded.
    #13284692 -

Love this video.

"Every atom in your body came from a star that exploded. And the atoms in your left hand probably came from a different star than your right hand. It really is the most poetic thing I know about physics.

You are all stardust.

You couldn't be here if stars hadn't exploded. Because the elements, the carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, iron, all the things that matter for evolution weren't created at the beginning of time. They were created in the nuclear furnaces of stars. And the only way they could get into your body is if the stars were kind enough to explode.

So forget Jesus. The stars died so you could be here today." - Lawrence Krauss

I've been knocking from the inside.” - Rumi

“The nitrogen in our DNA, the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our apple pies were made in the interiors of collapsing stars. We are made of starstuff.” - Carl Sagan

More accurately, because a penis exploded.

Lucky you, I can't post my Sagan pic.

I was thinking about that kind of stuff last night during my trip and it blew my mind.

If it doesn't blow your mind then you're doing it wrong.

Thank you for refreshing my perspective. I was going downhill a bit there...it truly is magnificent to be alive. :hippie:

Thanks for sharing that Frost. Was an interesting video, and I will probably check out some of his other work.

I have to say this, though. The shot at religion, stuff like 'all the stuff needed for evolution', cheapens it. I mean, it's well understood, even by a child, that we all came from something. There is plenty of evidence that supports the big bang, total and complete evolution from amino acids and a lightening bolt, not so much.

You run the risk of being one of those idiots decades from now when science is better able to know the mechanisms of creation. I hate that such a beautiful thought was interrupted by the 'i hate god parade'. Not to say that evolution isn't that mechanism, but as of yet there are missing links, and until those links are found I have to say, I have no idea. Good shit overall but still soiled by the dung of insecurity in ones beliefs.

You have no problem accepting that rearranging a few atoms makes a deadly thing thing fun, right? Is it so hard to believe that maybe different types of life evolved from different points along the proposed evolutionary scale and at the same time? Im supposed to believe that the symphony that is chemistry, and indeed nature, stops there? Im not that fucking arrogant (although close), I might just be buzzed, though.

Fuck.

This idea has continually blown my mind since I learned about the concept in astronomy class.

Hell yes. This is one of the many reasons I love astronomy so much. And because space is just so... HUGE. Its very relaxing to me to realize that all of my troubles and pain are no more significant to the universe than an atom in a grain of sand on a beach.

Contemplating such ideas makes me feel so happy I'd be content to die right then and there.

So hear this please
And watch as your heart speeds up endlessly
And look for the stars as the sun goes down
Each breath that you take has a thunderous sound
Everything, everything's magic
