What's going on with the Large Hadron Collider?

Last I read a superconductor malfunctioned and it was shut down for repairs, I just talked to my roommate that said it "Defied the laws of physics" and when I pressed him for wtf he was talking about he said "I dunno man it has something to do with the past and the future"

this is the dumbass chem major roommate I have/:facepalm: on a regular basis.

there's a theory it's being interfered with by particles 'from the future' that are effectively sabotaging it (because it causes a paradox and proceeds to divide by zero) , but i'm not knowledgeable enough on the subject to offer a reasonable judgement.

i call a fund-stifled, resentful Human Genome Project (ex-)member, haha.

i don't know, increasing our mastery over newtonian physics? not that important. not like it can lead to drastic changes in our definition of technology, life, and consciousness or anything.

Compared to other science divisions its like slow-mo.  What makes you think this is going to do something? Its still out and yet nothing has really been recognized except tech. and some bad predictions. cmon now.

Physics makes progress every day - just the progress that it does make is so far beyond most peoples understanding that it would appear null until something physical and usable like an antimatter bomb is produced.

it still hasn't been used to its fullest potential, doesn't it not even have the power all the way up?

They have been slowly upscaling the power input, but its been even slower due to the issues the LHC has been having

do you have a source for this theory? This is probably what my friend was referring to, to me it sounds dumb as hell.
