grain to grain transfer dilemna

My aquaintance has about 6 jars of rye colonized. These jars are third generation, and all show excellent rhizomorphic growth.  One jar though... has a patch of the most unbelievable mycelium that my aquaintance has ever seen (keep in mind that he has only been cultivating for a few months). But I have seen pictures... the patch is incredible. The problem being.. the patch is really the bottom third of the jar. the mycellium towards the top is good, but inferior. So, my question being, is there a possibility that he could get to the bottom mycelium to do another GTG, and if so, any recommendations on how to go about doing it ? thanks !  :tongue:

You could use a sterilized spoon to first scoop the "inferior" mycelium out and then to transfer the "good" mycelium.
