In a few years, when the economy recovers and we are all rich again,  I am going to have a few cobras in the middle of my house, in large terrariums that extend all the way to the ceiling.  And a few dozen slaves to feed them. ....for me!  Feed them for me!

King Cobra's are almost too hard to fathom.

A snake with elite venom that can grow upwards of 16 feet in length.

Ridiculous. Just ridiculous. They're rarely seen at that size (well, in the wild at least)but experts say that in deepest, most remote jungles in the world there are King Cobras 20 feet long.

I don't know if this pic is real or not but Kings DO get this big.

I saw one at the Fort Worth Zoo that went 13 and a half feet.

Okay, I have heard from many people that you can take the venom gland out of king cobras without seriously damaging them or potentially killing them, is this true or not?

This is the only way I'd consider a cobra, I mean copperheads are more aggressive but for some reason I feel safer around them than I would a cobra...guess it's just the reputation they have.

They can be taken out (that's how India's cobra charmers stay alive), but it's a virtual death sentence for them from what I've heard.

I saw a show on Animal Planet (or something like that)and they said that most cobras with their venom glands removed ended up dieing within 6 months.

King Cobras are scary.  I like snakes and everything, but I think I'll keep my friendly non-poisonous snakes for pets, and leave the poisonous ones for the zoo.

Well see that's where I come in. I want to actually own and live in a zoo, it would be fucking epic.

That would be really cool.
I think it would be cool to get to interact with all the animals on a daily basis.  Especially the Tigers.  You'll have to get back at me when that day comes so I can come play with the Tiger kittens lol.

Nice copperhead there Gumby, they are so beautiful for being so deadly. I'd kill to have one of those as a pet, either that or a carpet viper, maybe a diamondback rattler.

Copperheads are very rarely deadly. Sure, they'll make you sick as hell, but really the only cases where people die from them are kids and elderly or people who have an allergic reaction to the venom.

If you want a copperhead you should just go out and catch one, that's what I did. Almost stepped on the fucker with bare feet in my backyard, but then I pinned it down and caught it.

As far ask keeping other venomous snakes goes, it's generally a bad idea. I've worked with or caught several rattlesnakes, copperheads, and cottonmouths but I wouldn't keep anything more dangerous than a copperhead. If you live in say, middle of no where Nebraska or something and you get bitten by an exotic venomous snake your likelihood of dying or losing a limb is pretty high.

Unless you call the closest hospital and tell them that you're keeping x species of snake and they need to have the antivenin on hand for you in case of an accident, you're fucked. And you have to pay for the antivenin which is RETARDEDLY expensive. Another alternative is keeping the antivenin on hand at your house and self administering it, but the antivenin has a high chance of killing you as well. I read in Reptiles magazine that the average cost of treatment for snake envenomation is $15,000+ and health insurance probably won't cover it because it's your own dumbass fault for keeping venomous snakes in the first place.
