yea, my female is pretty big so i was hoping to breed her but no success the past two seasons...  She's old and big and thick, had 22 babies a few years ago

i'm looking at some vision cages to put my male columbian boa in so I can separate him from my female in an attempt to get some breeding action when winter comes and i re-introduce them...  do you guys think a vision 221 that is 28" W x 24" D x 12" H would be ok for him?  He's about 5.5 feet

Last time I saw one at a pet store (granted it was like 5 years ago)he was running about $300.

It's a snake I've always kind of wanted, but I'm not really in position to get one.

I've already got a steadily growing iguana. I don't think I want to add a potential 5-7 foot snake to my costs at this point.

The first two pythons I have owned have never struck at me, but all 3 of the other ones at the petstore did when I was handling them. I'm a afraid that if he ever does strike at me I will throw him at a wall or something. Although I doubt that is ever going to happen.

Yeah both the Emerald Tree Boa and Green Tree Pythons tend to be vicious. They're one of those "look but don't touch" kinda snakes from what I've seen. They also stress pretty easily.

Oh yeah, the pic of that orange snake I posted is an Albino Western Hognose.

This thread is lacking pics, so here's some pics of snakes I've kept or caught in the past...



Phew. I think that's literally almost every snake picture I've uploaded to the Shroomery.

Yep, sounds about right, they have one at the pet store I go to and its about that much.  Pretty little guy though

What are baby snakes like?


Baby snakes are skiddish.  They are very protective of themselves and can be a bit nippy.  Once they get used to being handled by humans though, they calm down quite a bit.  I'm basing this information off of my 4 week old hatchling.  She is starting to relax, and has stopped hissing and nipping, now she is just scared lol.  but not as much as when we first brought her home.

Oh I also found out that the whole snakes laying beside you to measure you and see if you can eat it is a myth.  They would starve and don't really have the mental capacity to plan their murder attack on you.  Just thought I would throw that out there lol.

Gosh, I have heard that too so I thought I would look into it, and my source was off a herpetology website.  But it's a very popular rumor so it doesn't surprise me that people think it's true.

Nice copperhead there Gumby, they are so beautiful for being so deadly. I'd kill to have one of those as a pet, either that or a carpet viper, maybe a diamondback rattler.

I can't help it that the most beautiful snakes also happen to be the most deadly of them.:shrug:
