Hydrogen
    #12919543 -

Splitting water molecules into hydrogen (by electrolysis) and subsequently using the hydrogen as fuel (oxidizing it) seems like a major fail.

But what if you use this hydrogen and fuse it into helium? Would the energy input still exceed the output?

should probably ask this in the science forum brah:gethigh:

How exactly do you plan on initiating nuclear fusion?

Its a very slow board and there are lots of science geeks lurking around here.
It would be an easy calculation for someone whos into physics.

Doesn't matter.

Basically what I'm asking is how much energy do u need to get 1 mol of H2 (by subjecting water to electrolysis) and how much energy would u get from fusing 1 mol of H2 into helium.

You get the most efficient energy (discovered so far) combining one deuterium and tritium into a molecule of helium

No, that will never happen.  If it seems like it does happen you just need to look more carefully for where the energy is.

As for the jist of your thread,  The energy requirement to split the water molecule is negligible compared to the energy requirement to fuse the atoms.

So once the helium is released into the atmosphere does it eventually escape into the cosmic void?

If the atoms are moving fast enough they will.  They can be contained though, something that will be done more and more once helium becomes more scarce.

This sounds terribly efficient and eco-friendly. I hope people harness that soon. Its dope as fuck :awecid:

Efficient and eco friendly?  I dont understand.

At my job we vent helium all the time

Efficient - you said (or someone else did) that the energy output is way bigger than the input

eco-friendly - it eventually goes into space so its not a pollutant.

I don't think it would be cost effective.

Anyway, how is He used for fuel?

Cause we've got a moon full of it. Seriously.
