I finally had Indian food for the first time.
    #12862360 -

A guy I work with is Indian and brought some food he made into work for us to try.  I was the only one brave enough, and I forget what it was called.  Can anyone shed some light?  I'll describe it.

It was cold and looked like baby puke.  When I first put it in my mouth I almost gagged; I didn't expect it to be so cold.  It was dumplings covered in some kind of peanut sauce that had a lot of red and green chilis cooked into it.  The aftertaste was awesome.  It was like a spicy, doughey, peanut butter.

It seemed like more of a side dish than a main entree.  I remember him calling it something that sounded like "Italy".

Anyone?

indian food is like electronic music there's just so much variety in spices and flavors and so many possibilities of mixing and matching and creating new and unique flavors..

much different from the bland american rock and roll music with hot dogs and french fries

Yeah indian food has a lot of different spices!

Generally speaking Indian food isn;t my favorite, but butter chicken and red lamb curry is the bomb diggity! I don't think many people could not like those...

Was it cold on purpose or just not heated out yet? Also where in India is he from, that would shed light as to the food. Since the country is huge and has a huge variety of dishes.

Try Palak paneer sometime, paneer means cheese and it is awesome! One of my favorite Indian dishes! It's spinach and cheese cubes, it is so good.

Also, a lot of the dishes are served kind of buffet style so you eat a little of a lot of things. So they are all sort of "side dishes".

After some digging I found out it's called, "Idli".  I think it's purposely served cold, I asked him if it was cold and he's like, "Yeah man!"  Then again, that could be the Indian equivalent of cold pizza.   I think it would taste awesome served warm, but it was still good cold.

Yeah, definitely make friends with him. Indian food is incredible! If you have any Thai co-workers, definitely befriend them too and you're set!

HAHA funny you mentioned that.  I also work with a guy who's married to a Thai chic, and they own a Thai restaurant.  It's always good times when we all go eat/drink there.  He must eat like a king at home...:drooling:

Haha, a fwb of mine manages a thai restaurant.  Awesome to get some free yummies and then have wild sex in the restaurant after hours(though he did have some 'splaining to do when his mom/owner found a condom wrapper on the floor that one time ).

But yeah, indian food is awesome too.  I've neer been disappointed by a restaurant served dish; i usually go with a lamb dish or something with eggplant.  Also, the best iced tea i've ever had was from an indian joint.

Never had Thai lamb yet.  I went for this one duck dish once.  I was really disappointed.  Not in the quality but the size... I polished it off in about 7 minutes.  It was all done up nice with mangoes and all...  :drooling:  Some Pad Thai would've lasted a lot longer lol.

It could be worse. A woman could cut off your penis while you're sleeping and toss it out the window of a moving car.

it sounds like satay sauce to me. has a browney colour and tastes nutty with a spiceyness to it. its great, i usually have it with chicken.

dude indian food is awesome. dont look at it and be like...that looks like someone just leaked that out of their anus, because sure it doesnt look appetising but it is full of flavour once you try it.

Yea Idli, I had to make those for dinner for all the monastics when I was a Hindu monk. They're generally served hot with coconut chutney or sambar. Sounds like he had spicy peanut sauce on them.

You should ask him about Dosai, they're made from the same batter as Idli. Except there spread thin on a griddle, like crepe's. You would probably enjoy those more.
