First monstrose bridgesii and update on pedros!
    #12808721 -

This is when i first repotted the little guy. He was a very dark green. This was on the 14th.

This is today. The pups seem to be growing a lot but the tips are still kind of light/lime green and the main stem seems to have gotten a bit lighter  . I am hoping this is do to the cactus reestablishing its roots in the new pot.

Here is an update of my backberg clones, they seem to be doing pretty good, I hope.

This was the pic on the first day I got them which was april 2. Sorry the pot is turned around.

How can I make these guys super dark green? The bridgesii have still not watered and I am planning to give it its first watering on monday which will be two weeks since I planted it

I really enjoy seeing everyone's cactus on this forum :crazy2:

Your pedros need to be repotted separately... and in a better soil  (altman uses a crappy fiberous soil.  I think it's coir or peat and perlite?  no real substance to it.) but other than that,  You seem like you've got the hang of it.

They look fine to me but like Harvey said the pedros could do with a repot. The lime green tips on your monstrose are normal for when they're in active growth, once they stop growing they will darken up. Also the cactus may of lightened its colour because it is growing in more intense light than it was when at the nursery. How many hours of direct sunlight do they get?

That's what I'm trying to figure out karode. I have been changing the location around because I thought the light colored tips were due to inadequate light exposure or too much light. How much direct sunlight from the southern California sun should they be receiving, since it is pretty intense? Any california growers around? I'd say right now I have been giving them about 7 hours or so of direct sunlight. The little guys do seem to be getting bigger and its been less than 2 weeks!

I'm in Australia and the temperatures here get into the 110+F in Summer regularly. My Penor plant gets about 6 hours of direct light a day then in shaded light for the remainder. Yours looks ok and I wouldn't worry about it too much, also try and leave it in the one position as moving a plant constantly can confuse it. So long as it's getting adequate light it will do fine.

those are some nice cacti mdp. did you get the backbergs at lowes or homedepot?

they usually sell a pair in the same pot. i would never want 2 in the same pot unless they were from the same column.

ferrel it's "Backeberg" with an "e" in between the "Back" and "berg". The guys name was Curt Backeberg.  I see a lot of people not spelling his name correctly and then I see others follow suite. I just thought I'd let people know and if they choose to continue spelling it the wrong way they are only adding to the confusion.

I think we owe it to Mr. Backeberg to at least spell his name properly. He did after all do a lot for our beloved cacti.  :whistling:

Don't worry you're not the only one around here who has done this. It has been irking me for some time so I thought I'd say something.

ahhh thanks ferrel, I really enjoy seeing the new threads you make of your cactus. I am planning to separate them, now that I freed up some pots by planting my peach and apple trees. I just hope the separation of the two backebergs isn't too difficult

Karode: got it, BACKEBERG.

A couple new crested peruvianus will be joining me very soon as well!  :dancer:

cacti are TOO addicting!  :fishgun:
