ID Request. Dunedin - NZ
    #12804971 -

First timer. Thanks for having a look. Found two species I thought worth collecting. The first I am unsure of but looks similar to what I've hear referred to as 'Blue Meanies' in the Manawatu region. The second I am hoping is Psilocybe Subaeruginosa. I apologise in advance for the poor quality pics.

SPECIES 1 EDIT - Identified as Cortinarius rotundisporus

Habitat:
Ferny undergrowth. Fair amount of leaf/fern debris. Very moist and sheltered from direct sunlight.

Gills:
Creamy / white when young, maturing to beige, not attached.

Stem:
4-10cm long, 5mm thickness near cap, tapering out towards base, white/cream, smooth, semi solid / fibrous.

Cap:
15 - 50mm diameter, tan in centre turning blue/grey toward outer edge, smooth/slimy, conical when young, flattening with maturity, concave with umbo.

Spore print color:
EDIT - Spore print yellow
Bruising:
No noticable bruising

Other information:
Smells of classic garden variety mushroom.

SPECIES 2

Habitat:
Felled Pine forest littered with decaying pine.

Gills:
Creamy / white when young, maturing to dark brown, mostly attached.

Stem:
3-8cm long, 2-5mm thickness near cap keeping similar toward base, white to tan, smooth, semi solid / fibrous.

Cap:
15 - 70mm diameter, light beige to dark tan, smooth, conical when young, flattening with maturity, tends to turn up at edges with maturity, concave with umbo.

Spore print color:
In process of spore print

Bruising:
No noticable bruising

Other information:
Hard to distinguish a smell. Seems like dirt. There were many, many of these scattered about in clusters and singularly

Both inactive. Cortinarus for the first one.

Do not consume.

I'm guessing they're both Cortinarius species.

Looks more like a mix of Cortinarius and Entoloma.

Do they need to bruise blue and have a violet spore print to be active?

First one looks like Cortinarius rotundisporus or Cortinarius bellus if in Nothofagus forest. Second one I'm not sure but it isn't active, in fact neither are and should not be eaten.

Find out which active species grow in your area (there's a page on this site somewhere telling you)...

Then find out their habitat, growing season, size, cap shape, cap texture, presence of partial or universal veil, whether the gills are attached to the stem, gill colour, spore colour, stem colour, stem texture, whether or not the stem is hollow and if they bruise then which colour.

Then go and look for them at the appropriate time of year, in the appropriate habitat armed with your new found knowledge. When you think you've found the right one, come back here and get it identified.

THAT'S how you tell if a mushroom is active.

Above steps had been taken. Thought I was onto a winner. Obviously not. Without questions you don't get answers. Cheers for the help

Black capped ones remind me of Entoloma, mate.

Really? So which species did you think you'd found?

As I mentioned in my first post

From what I'd read, P. Sub. were readily found in pine litter and decaying mulch/woodchip. The ones I picked had similar properties to P.Subs although with a different coloured stem which I'd also read isn't an impossibility, albeit an off chance. I'm not looking for an argument dude, just information.
