A new perspective on the Handicapped
    #12790614 -

I had a dream about handicaps and social workers just now, and for one reason or another it brought me to tears. Deep, flowing, healing tears. In order to explain it, or rather, a realization in the dream that caused it, was/is the following:

The handicapped strike us so strongly because they'll never leave us. They are the unconditional loving mother. Their love is final, complete. Their motives pure. And it is the same with the dead. This is why at funerals we are so emotional, because the love exhumed by a certain dead person's wishes, words and paragraphs are raised to the height of unconditonality. It is NOT that we feel sorry for them, it is NOT empathy, it's more likely that we feel sorry for ourselves, perhaps even to the extent of jealously, because we do not exhume the same love. It's guaranteed for them; for the handicapped, it's guaranteed by their simplistic living style, which expects nothing of you. For the dead, they have nothing left to give, it all has been taken from them, yet they still love. The intensity is almost Messianic. Perhaps it is the warming comfort of the mother we see in the handicap, that brings us to cry, as well as in the dead? The release, the invitation to release, given by their maternal authority, allows us a healing state of our own, often mistaken as empathy and its reward within a system of personal morality.

Thoughts? Discuss... ? etc.

PS. I was also at a funeral recently, IRL.

My thoughts are that little of what you have stated is true and you understand basic primate motivations very little. Your tears notwithstanding. And I really don't consider your views in any way "new".

That's about as grumpy of a response I could've expected from you. :P I think they are new, which is why I rushed to post them (PC is very accessible). Where have you heard this before?

Ha well I don't mean the corpse loves you. I mean the person, if just as a concept, a mental image, loves you. I guess I'm specifically referring to dead family members here, but, what I really mean by that is they have a kind of innocence now that exhumes love...

The OP's post is filled with incorrect generalizations and falsehoods.  I disagree utterly.

Oh so I'm supposed to sugar coat my response so your new age sensibilities aren't damaged, even though your OP is a wasteland of wrong.

And this type of post is also the nonsense I hear from you on a continual basis. In fact I consider you about the most ill advised poster in these parts. So I guess the feelings mutual.

And I hear this same trite from any bleeding heart that thinks the handicapped are some kind of special souls rather than errors in genetics. Yuck.

What a pile of bullshit. I don't think you've met many handicapped people.

I worked with the handicapped, wiped their arses, received their blows and copped abuse from their families. You're simply idealising weakness. You do, however, have a nice turn of phrase. Keep writing and cease dreaming.

Well I won't reply to the negative posts. Jesus Icelander, relaxxx. I don't think anyone got what I mean. I will address this though: yes there is a generalization, I guess I should have meant to say, the mentally ill. That's who I have experience with.

I'm not upset, it's a forum. I can sugar-coat the posts, pretend you're joking, see only hatred, consider myself right or wrong, it's all up to the individual. There's no objectivity in forums, that's the basis of trolling.

I'm not upset

Instead of addressing his reply, you posted a useless personalism that added nothing to the discussion.

That reads like "upset" in my book.

Had you not been upset, you would have simply addressed his reply without making it personal.
