the movie is about the bullshit and failure of ideals (whether found through living the 'american' way of life or by being smelly hippy)

Just saw Fear and Loathing in Los Vegas.  Didn't care for it at all.  It was just a bunch of nonsequiters about insane druggies.  It didn't make sense at all.  Seemed like a pretty strong anti-drug propaganda type movie.

So you feel drugs were portrayed in a positive light in that movie?

Its an 'off the wall' comedy about this ^^^^^^. Yes, I thought it was very funny and interesting. In
no way did I find that it negatively portrayed drug use. If anything, its a credit to the culture.
Maybe you should try watching something more mainstream that has accurate portrayals of drug use, like
"Smiley Face". Parts of that story are said to be based on the writers actual experiences.
:huxleyfacepalm:

Hunter S. Thompson was an interesting and very intelligent fellow, to say the very least. He pioneered
a way of writing, 'Gonzo journalism'. If you don't like that style try reading some of his articles
from Rolling Stone or what he wrote after 911.

The majority of this was based in reality.  It doesn't matter what light it was portrayed in,  it was the truth.

Exactly. What could make it even more intriguing? How drug use in the movie was
portrayed is a matter of personal opinion.

It was based and creatively licensed.

It was not the truth - just a good story

Watch it again.  I did not like at all my first time, but it gets better and better to the point every scene is hilarious.

I would recommend watching "where the buffalo roam" also. They are both amazing movies.

Bill murray is the only redeeming factor in that pile of shit movie.  Its about as far from amazing as you can get.  Bill murray > Johnny Depp

I think Depp copied alot of what murray did but I love Bill murray so I might be a little biased.  They both did a great job but I think murray did a better job:shrug:

 Ever done drugs? Ever been on a drug binge, woke up on someone elses couch buck naked and unable to speak?

it's a lot funnier film if you've had similar experiences. The film is about the fall-out of the counter-culture movement, how it led from psychedelics as a way to expand your mind, to hardcore drug use as a way to pass the time.

It's also a highly quotable film if you've ever been out of your head.

You are right bill murray > Depp.  365 days of the year, every year.  My largest gripe about fear and loathing is depp.  The book is good but the movie just ok.
