Rubermaid tubs and humidification ...

So, I am planning on putting 2-3 small trays of hay/castings in a tub. Do I need any "special" humidification setup, or can I just fan and mist casing and get by? Much thanks.

Casings can supply their own humidity if the fruiting chamber isn't too big.

If they start to look too dry try adding a small dish of perlite/water/h2o2 to the tub with an air bubbler in the dish. This will also provide lots of fresh oxygen for your shrooms

Some people like to use perlite humidification regardless of whether they have cakes or casings (my cat included). You need to mist more without the perlite, but it can sometimes make the humidity a little high for casings (you get fuzzy mycelial growth on the stipes). In his opinion, though, better too much humidity than too little.

I guess it's a matter of preference. Try both, and see what you like!

Thanks for all the help people. I keep thinking that my cat is in your post (he looks very similar). I think I will try some w/ perlite and some without. IME, perlite is a bit of a mess. My meerkat is lloking to avoid any mechanical/electrical systems if at all possible. He is very busy, and not around much. I guess that would be a reason to look into those types of setups. (The meerkat is very good with construction and electrical work).
