humidification with perlite

this is still my main problem damnit!
i have a rubbermaid bin and i put .5 inch of water then 1.5 inch of perlite. I let it sit for a few hours and there was no sort of condensation. I taped a garbage bag to the underside of the lid so that when you put it on it's pinched shut.
BAH! should there be a dry top layer of perlite or something?

Sometimes the air temp surrounding your terrarium can affect condensation on the inside. Try misting the inside if you like.
Do you have a hygrometer? If not I would suggest investing in one!

i do have a hygrometer i've never seen it go over like... 70%, i misted the shit out of it this morning and the hygrometer only went up to 63% then back down to 58% in like five minutes... when i was moving the bin i accidentally tipped it so it did absorb the water... ah well i guess i'll just keep misting. thanks for your help...
oh yeah i made it, and put the cakes in it around 10 am yesterday and the air temp is around upper 60's lower 70's..

your first problem is perlite, it sucks. its messy, it filthy, it casues contams!!!!
-------------------- Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.

Heres what I would try...Remove all your perlite and drian the water from the bottom of the fruiting chamber. Standing water is NOT what you want here...What your looking for is WET PERLITE. Just fill a collander with enough perlite to give you about 2" in the bottom of the tank. get the perlite wet and let it drain it a bit by shaking it in the colander. Now put everything back together and spray down the walls of the terrarium. give it 6-12 hrs for the rh to buid up and you should be golden.
